You chose a villain that looks distinctly foreskin-like as well.

The Irish famine was ultimately caused because their English landlords demanded they send their cash crops away to make them money, and the main thing they had left was potatoes. The potatoes weren’t plan A, they were plan Z after everything else was stolen from them. It was caused by colonialism. Yes, the potatoes were too important and the monoculture was a problem, but it’s not like they didn’t know that, they just didn’t have the freedom to do it better.

The potato blight actually returned some years later but by that time they had organised militant eviction defense to prevent the destruction of their communities and far fewer people died.

So a lot of historians and the Irish themselves will object to calling it the “potato famine” because it grossly distorts the reality of what happened.

Fair lol.

Such a great idea to make an international organisation for diplomacy where the nations that are already dominant also have complete power to stop anything they don’t like.

Surely this is a credible institution and not just a respectable veil over imperialism.

That’s right just sit there and frown at the guy vetoing instead of doing your duty to humanity and punching him in the face.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

No. What’s your point?

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Almost like the entire concept of peaceful diplomacy with global superpowers is foundationally flawed, which is my point.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Whoms’tsoever wilt vouchsafe they pussy.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

More like they had access to training bombs and planes, and frequently flew over enemy territory, so they put those things together and got a mad prank out of it.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

And did their CO ever do anything that landed him in the history books besides yelling at them for this historical prank? You are welcome, sir.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

To be fair if someone yelled “good morning officer” I’d look up too, because that’s just a weird thing to hear and I’d want to know where the cops were.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Also fair, the unique combo of boombox, shorts, air jordan tee and pulled up socks is particularly uncanny. I would’ve assumed the boombox had been sitting in an evidence locker since 1982 if it wasn’t for the blue LEDs.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Depends on your definition of “skip” I suppose.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

If I went round saying I was emperor just because some moistened bint lobbed a scimitar at me, they’d put me away!

There are stories of people experiencing whole lifetimes within dreams, especially within comas, as well as hallucinogenic trips that seem to last many years.

The human brain is a lot weirder than we know.

And it should be deeply troubling that if we ever learn to manipulate this kind of time perception that some people want to turn it towards torture, and they could get state backing to do so.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

The plural of “anecdote” is “data”, and this is a fairly commonly reproduced story. I don’t know if you understand just how much of psychology and medicine in general is literally just self-reports. If we refused to listen to anybody about their personal stories, we’d know next to nothing about the human mind, and there are absolutely ways to correlate certain states of mind to external measures like FMRI scans.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Unless you have a point then there’s nothing here to respond to.

I really wish people would learn to say what they mean.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

I love how the first two names are the same real names and in alphabetical order, then the next one is nearly a real name, sounds nearly like the first two, and is nearly in alphabetical order, and from there on the names just get weirder and more out of order.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Mutual aid. It has a real shot at working because it crucially isn’t about pulling yourself up, but people getting together to lift one another up.

And longer term, a lot of mutual aid organisations have explicitly revolutionary goals.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Food not bombs is a decent name, although it’s decentralised so every org will be different. If you search “food not bombs” + your city or state you’re likely to find something. All these orgs are local and decentralised because it’s a primarily anarchist method, but once you get in contact with one group they can point you towards others.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

This would’ve been funny as fuck to see happen. I cannot get the image out of my head of a silly duck flailing its wings trying to stay upright till it finally slides to a halt.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

That is funny for the exact opposite reason I thought it would be. That duck is so chill about it.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

I’ve said this recently, but intelligence is domain specific. People just being generally “smart” is not a thing people should really care about.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

If their priority is to make a nintendo emulator, they have to think about keeping their lines of communication secure against corporate legal threats, because those lines of communication are basically what software development is.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Oh yeah, those are big words coming from such an obvious banana.

I’m tired of all these fruitman accounts.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

I would love to know what font this person thinks this looks like tbh.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Okay but have you considered muh freeze peach?

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Just for being marxist-leninists? Or because they were toxic assholes?

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

This isn’t about diversity of opinion. I will happily talk to a tankie and explain why I think they are wrong, unless they’re a toxic asshole in which case I will simply point out that fact. The problem is when tankies get in charge of forums they behave like toxic assholes, and then yeah, I think we should ditch that forum.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

sigh

“Blocking is a band-aid that doesn’t remove the problem community from interacting with your community at large, which is how you limit the ability of that community to spread their harmful behaviour.”

Also, I don’t choose, the instance admins choose. Nothing I say will change that. If I successfully convince them, then they were convincable. If you don’t like that… change instances.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

So do they regularly do this, or is it a thing you’ve seen anecdotally?

And if the thing they were calmly arguing was genocide denial, then the ban was warranted. The tone is not the only thing that matters.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Nobody is blocking you from it. You can go find an instance that doesn’t defederate. You can make an account with them. Literally nobody is stopping you.

If the admins of your instance agree it should be defederated and you disagree, then I guess that instance isn’t a good fit for you.

This isn’t like… a difficult concept, so I have to ask what it is about it that you’re struggling with.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

I’m sorry, do you think the concept of a “problem community” is somehow not a concept that makes sense? What is your argument here exactly?

Are you trying to say that defederation should never be done? If not, then what are you saying?

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

If you can’t even be bothered to write a coherent sentence then I have to say I’m not too concerned about what you have to say.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

I have an issue with people who mount a campaign to stop defederation regardless of who it’s targeting.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Oh wow… vote manipulation how? Like using alts or something else? How do you detect this? I am so curious now.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

I just got this comment about how some of these folks were vote manipulating: lemmy.cafe/comment/5417577

I have no idea exactly what that means but I am fascinated to learn more. It makes the concern trolling even more of a troll in that case. Like I seriously wonder what’s behind it if this is happening, because these “no defederate PLZZZZ!!1!” folks are so rabid and they keep recycling the same tired, vapid arguments that they don’teven bother to defend. Like are they just trying to sabotage the fediverse by spreading FUD about the main tool we have for preventing it from sliding into pure toxicity?

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Super interesting, I’ve heard often you can catch cheaters more in the data than in the specific act. So do you mean that you just noticed the sudden +4 / -4 jump? If they all came from the same IP address then that would probably be enough, I guess.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Actually looking at those mod logs it looks like a bunch of “davi” accounts across multiple instances. I guess it was just alts.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

And your vague-posting about it gives a fair and balanced account, I’m sure, but if you want to make your case, link the thread, if you think it will vindicate you.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

couldnt_find_post

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

I did. Any other way to give yourself the vindication that you don’t need? It’s a shame you don’t care about this because otherwise you’d keep replying.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Because it’s your post. It literally says “removed by mod” on that screenshot. Why do you think literally anybody else can see it?

Try logging out or going into private mode and seeing if you can view it.

Also, they didn’t go out of their way to ban you for having these opinions. They literally just removed a post. Boo hoo. The mod logs will be visible, and they should state a reason.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Yes, moderation is famously capable of immediately removing every single toxic asshole in any forum.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Well, we don’t know what misinformation you were spreading in that thread because we can’t access it, we just have to take your word for it.

And we have access to your comments doing genocide denial in this very post, so I’m afraid I just don’t believe you’re being 💯 with me, sorry champ.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

That’s a fair point, although I would say socialism is becoming less fringe, and it seems like the various types of libsoc are the main forms of socialism because people have seen the failures of state based solutions, even amongst demsocs/socdems.

That said, I kind of agree and the word “fringe” didn’t sit quite right. On reflection a better word would be “covert”, since ideologies that explicitly want to dominate people tend to hide what they are, since they know it’s not acceptable to state their aims up front. That’s really the idea I was getting at.

Excrubulent,
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

I don’t see the relevance of schadenfreude, but since you can see it, you realise you can just take screenshots, right? Like seriously, I would be fascinated to see them.

Excrubulent, (edited )
@Excrubulent@slrpnk.net avatar

Is this supposed to be some sort of troll?

EDIT: At this point, you really should just stop replying. Replying with literally nothing is a blatant admission that you have nothing to say, which is to say that you know you were in the wrong and you don’t want to admit it.
