I think i’ve figured out how to do it. The trick is to just have an automation hyperfixation then make automated to-do lists. If you do it just right, you’ll trick yourself into feeling compelled to check off the tasks so that it can repopulate every day. Sneak in the manageable tasks kind of like when you hide your dog’s medicine in a slice of cheese.

hell yeah warframe. I accidentally spent all of my arcane juice on steel path arcanes instead of eidolon arcanes in the sanctum, so I’m taking a break until the despair leaves my body, but I love that game

I’ve played a bit of the daggerfall unity remake. It’s alright, but incredibly repetitive and shallow (from what i’ve seen, at least. only got to the werewolf dungeon in the daggerfall queen’s questline). Sure there are some things that could be iterated upon, but I don’t think it’s something I’d ever consider making my primary inspiration for anything. I’m curious to see what this game will keep from it.

I’ve been ripping my hair out trying to get through Nodecore, a game for Minetest. It’s basically minecraft but without an inventory menu and in-world crafting. You can’t punch a tree down, but you can tear down the leaves and put together some branches to make an adze, which you can drop gravel on to cleave through one (1) log from a tree, which you can then carve with the adze to make planks, and then tool heads – it goes on like that.

So far I’ve discovered stone-tipped tools and how to melt singular items like sand. I’m trying to figure out how to do concrete in such a way that isn’t mindbogglingly tedious, and I still have to figure out how to find metal - torches don’t last forever, you see, so spelunking is an expensive and time-consuming task. If you delve too deep without proper preparations, you’re proper stuck in the dark. Subterranean pits can be save enders.

Its kind of like a puzzle game. You’re given hints as to what you can do, its just a matter of figuring out how to actually do it. At the endgame, there are machines you can put together that I presume automate a lot of the more tedious labors. I don’t actually know if that’s true though, its just what I’ve seen in screenshots. There’s a wiki, but its woefully incomplete.

I was pretty into 2 and 3, and I’m definitely not burnt out of the genre or anything, but I just can’t work up the interest to really check out another The Sims after 4.

It’s just generally really shallow. The emotional states was a good idea, but they didn’t actually do anything interesting with it. A lot of the strides they made in asset customization in 3 were left behind in favor of… nothing, i guess? You have a hundred different interactions between sims, and they can all effect the tone of the conversation… but that doesn’t actually matter at all (To be fair, they did introduce lingering sentiments from conversations later, which was a good idea that just needed expansion).

Build mode is alright, but the furniture is a linear progression system which is annoying. You might want a modern looking bed to go with your big city apartment, but the numbers say you actually should want a wooden Princess Cordellia bed. Maybe you want metal stools for your bar? Nope, Princess Cordelia. But what about your dining chairs? Say it with me. Princess Cordellia. You can just ignore the numbers if you want, but there’s not much else to spend money on.

At the end of the day, it feels like you’re just giving up a lot in exchange for half-baked, overpriced, and uninteresting additions.
