Of course you’ll be able to disable it. Until your computer updates the next time, then it’ll turn on and you’ll need to turn it off again. But then they’ll grey out the option not to start it automatically with every reboot and you’ll need to close it manually every time. Until they remove that option, too.

I’ve been wanting to do that for a while now but haven’t tried it yet because the Wikihow article about growing tobacco says that the last step is to age it for 5-6 years. Turns out that step is optional (it even says so in the article, I just never read past the first bullet point), though you’ll get harsh tobacco if you skip it. But I don’t smoke, so I don’t care about harshness.

Anyway, you should give it a try, maybe it’s fun, and working with plants is always a good time :3

Yeah, some Lemmy apps and clients are a bit weird when it comes to formatting. I use Raccoon for Lemmy on my phone and it doesn’t display ^superscript^, for example, but Lemmy is still relatively young, and I’m sure small things like this will be fixed eventually :3

More time in the bush would definitely do me good. I took a bag and cleaned up a bit once last year (or the year before that?), and it was a great feeling. That’s also how I found what I think is a part of an animal’s skull in a dried-up lake, which was pretty cool :3 (the skull part, not the lake being dried up)

I think it’s “I recommend it to all Amazon watchers!”, but I don’t know what Amazon watchers are supposed to be. Also, if that were correct, it’d mean they used b to replace m in “recommend” (“recabed”) but g in “Amazon” (“Agazad”), which would be a little inconsistent considering they used d > n and a > o in both words. So it’s probably not Amazon, I guess. Maybe a show or something because of the capital A?

edit: after thinking about it for a few more hours, maybe it’s a porn site or a euphemism for porn? I don’t know any that would translate to “Agazad,” but that’d explain the need for a one-hand keyboard.

A 4-day workweek would be lovely if monthly salaries stayed the same (= hourly wages went up). Then I could work three days a week and get 75% of a full-time salary instead of just 60%, which would be kind of like a 25% raise. That’d leave me with so much more time to be silly :3

Emergency situations are definitely something else, I agree that it’s important to answer phone calls when there’s a decent chance someone close to you might need to reach out using someone else’s phone, especially if it’s a local area code. The worst thing that’s happened to me (so far) is that I missed a call from a company that wanted to offer me a job. They sent me an email asking to call them back, and now I work for them :3

tbh that’s something that always scares me a bit when I make slightly more “political” comments like this. It feels like humans are prone to believing that the way things are right now is how they are meant to be, and that the status quo is the best possible option. As far as I know (and all I really know is what I remember from a couple of sociology books that I skimmed for a paper five years ago), opposition to overwhelming changes is a very human reaction because we tend to like “the same as yesterday with a few minor changes to liven things up a bit,” but it still saddens me to see this kind of reaction to ideas that could improve life so drastically. Given how big of a change leaving the 40-hour week behind would be, though, I can see why it causes this kind of reaction.

It’s not even like I don’t want to work at all. It’d be nice to achieve fully automated gay luxury space communism or whatever, but if humanity ever reaches that point, I’ll be long gone. A good work environment where everybody is treated well, hours that align with my life, a commute of no more than half an hour (or work-from-home), seeing a point in my job, and not being poor when I work, say, 20 hours a week are all I really want and need, but that’s already a lot (too much?) to ask for in this world. I think some theorists call that “agreeable work,” and I feel like that’s what we should be striving for.
