darktable 4.8.0 released (www.darktable.org)

darktable is an open source photography workflow application and raw developer. A virtual lighttable and darkroom for photographers. It manages your digital negatives in a database, lets you view them through a zoomable lighttable and enables you to develop raw images and enhance them.

@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Yay! 4.8 supports my camera! I can finally stop running darktable nightlies

Wrath of the Righteous. Hands down, the most interesting party member NPCs I’ve encountered in a CRPG.

Unique takes on stereotypes, and you find yourself invested in even the unlikable characters.

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Yep, I get that. And the combat balancing in Owlcat games is something you either like or hate, so I wouldn’t recommend the game itself for everyone. But whatever you think about the rule system or combat design, the characters are really well done!

Photoprism is not suitable as part of a post editing workflow. It’s a gallery for displaying and searching your photos after they’ve been sorted and edited.

@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Digikam. It supports grouping (or stacking as it’s called in Lightroom) by filename, so you can auto group RAW and JPG. It has hot keys for flagging rejects/approvals during initial inspections and review, so you can just fly through them.

Blahaj.zone admin here. Let me make this simple and clear. I don’t care what specific word you use, if you are using intellectual disability or neurodivergence as an insult, you’re going to get moderated.

There are two types of people that use slurs to talk about other folk.

The first group is made up of folk who don’t give a fuck if they’re hurting others.

The second group is made up of folk who don’t realise the slur is a slur or don’t understand why the slur is harmful.

The second group appreciates being informed about the consequences of their words so they can change course.

People in the first group that are pretending they’re in the second group get angry when called out. But they were always the first group.

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

The alternate party member NPCs are generic stereotypes, and far less interesting for that. They don’t hold a candle to the NPCs in something like Wrath of the Righteous, who subvert expectations in a wonderfullly interesting way.

Please help me understand why I should share my identity

To start for anyone that may be concerned by the title, I’ve always considered myself an ally and I’ve supported both family and friends when they came out to me. I’ve always known that it takes a lot of trust for someone to come out like that, and I want to be the friend that they feel safe to talk with about that stuff....

So from dinosaurs to humans and back to dinosaurs in an endless cycle?

is there an arch Fork where I can compile every package myself?

In order to be able to Further configure my system, I am looking for a fork of my current OS (artix with openRC as init system) in which i am able to compile every package from source in order to Further configure it with make flags. I am currently not using gentoo, and because the packages in its default repos are only updated...

@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

This is kinda the opposite of what you’re asking for, but might address the reason that you’re asking the question?

CachyOS is an Arch based distro, but it precompiles many arch packages (and some AUR packages) in several versions, optimised for either x86_64-v3 or x86_64-v4.

So if your goal is “optimised” rather than “compile yourself” it might be worth looking at

Building a brand new machine and leaving Windows for good

I’m sick of Windows, and especially what it’s become, and the way its trending looks like it will only get worse. I’ll be building a brand new PC this summer and want to choose a Linux Distro instead. In preparation, I’d like to try out a virtual machine with a Linux distribution. I am solidly familiar with Ubuntu, but I...

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

That’s what I did a couple of months ago. New PC, got rid of Windows and moved to Arch. The old PC is running Arch as well, and acts as our media PC.

Darktable is pretty powerful, though it’s not as easy to use as Lightroom

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It’s very different. They used to be similar years ago, but now darkroom is its own thing.

Scene referred processing, parametric masks and many other modules that have no equivalent in Light room.

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Well yes, you can do professional photo work in either, but darktable is not as easy to use. Masking in darktable for example, is incredibly configurable and powerful, but it’s also quite technical, and nothing at all like the AI driven object detection masking that Lightroom uses.

The ability to overlay masks to add or subtract from each other on a per module basis isn’t something that Lightroom does, so working out how to make the most of it in darktable is a process.

The scene referred pipeline workflow changes the way many of the modules work compared to similar functionality in Lightroom, and scene referred worklows in general is not the way most photo editing and management software works, so it’s a whole process to learn as well.

I’m finding darktable better and more powerful than Lightroom, but it is absolutely harder to use, and takes time and patience to understand.

Bought a brand new machine. Top of the line. Installed windows on it. Thought “You know what, fuck this, time to give Linux another go”. Discovered that nvida and Wayland don’t get on…

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Does it have smart playlists that can combine other playlists?

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Now, if you tell me it’s subsonic compatible and I can use that smartlist feature with subsonic music as a source, I’ll have found my new music player :)

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Airsonic is fine! Looks like it should do what I need!

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

So so close, but it doesn’t import my ratings and play counts through arsenic, only the raw music, which means none of my playlists will work

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

They’re going to use LLMs to analyse user usage data to make things better?

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Just got a new PC, and I’m running Linux as my only OS now, so I’ve been spinning up some of my old favourites to test things out.

Mechwarrior 5, Crusader Kings III and even a bit of Cyberpunk (technically older than 12+ months, but it doesn’t feel in the spirit of this community)

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It’s running smooth as butter, but I haven’t got any late game saves at the moment (they’re all for older versions with DLC etc)

That being said, this machine is pretty grunty. Ryzen 9 7900X, 64GB of RAM and an Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti Super

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Any reason you didn‘t opt for a 7900X3D?

No particular reason other than slightly more expensive

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Hate spreaders need people to spread hate to, but people that are targeted by hate tend not to hang around in spaces where unrestrained hate is allowed.

I really struggle with evil play throughs in most games. Rogue Trader is a notable exception for me, as I’m doing the whole “save humanity at the cost of my own humanity” and that’s the one approach to evil that I’ve actually been able to play and enjoy in a game

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It’s buggy but workable. I had lots of crashes until I updated my video drivers but none since. A couple of small quest / NPC bugs, but nothing serious, certainly no game breakers. It was out for a month or so before I picked it up, so I think I missed the game stoppers.

ada,

Supporting transphobes is wrong. Millions of people supported a transphobe. For me, that’s not being smug, it’s being terrified

ada,
@ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Yeah, lucky us, the largest transphobe in the world sold the most popular game in the world. As a trans person, I feel so spoiled and lucky!
