msage,

I hate league with passion but this is the dumbest reason to argue against any moba game.

msage,

How about the Office format shenanigans?

Do people not know or forget that M$ is only supporting things that don’t threaten their bottom line, or things they themselves (ab)use?

msage,

forcing me to run their stupid app

you don’t… for non-DRM games you can just launch the executable from the installation directory

Needing an internet connection even for single player local games

see above - therefore not true

You are just mad about things that aren’t real, yet scream about fanboyism. Cute.

msage,

I went to Linux because a colleague next to me handed me a Fedora DVD after having issues with company Windows.

I installed Linux many times on various hardware configurations since then.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a pain installing it, perhaps once when Ubuntu had messed up installer with custom LUKS setup.

msage,

I did have to compile Wifi dongle driver, since I moved and didn’t have cable in my work room. That was annoying as hell.

At first I thought I missed a driver in kernel compilation, but then my SO had the same issue in Mint. Luckily I was prepared.

But yeah, I have more sanity with Gentoo than I ever did with Windows. The other commenter probably hasn’t used Linux or something.

msage,

Fuck matrix.org, just selfhost.

msage,

I use Matrix for my personal 1 on 1 chats with family and friends, so dunno

msage,

What passwords where?

msage,

Please remind me how long it takes to build new nuclear plants?

msage,

When you have multiple Gentoo machines, you compile soft once and distribute it. You would be mad to compile everything every time.

msage,

There is a distcc/d for having compile hosts with cache, which directly links to just a binary package host - essentially set up flags once, compile everything to your liking, and download within your network.

msage,

Fucking trains, man

msage,

Calamity.

It’s like a second game.

I can’t believe people don’t add it to the recommendation every time.

Finish Terraria, get Calamity, go nuts.

msage,

Dwarf Fortress.

But you need to read the wiki :)

msage,

I mean, it can be the ONLY game you ever play ;)

msage,

Use Firefox, don’t use Chrome or any of its forks.

msage,

Yakuza Like a Dragon.

It’s not Yakuza 0, that game was so much fun, the minigames were more interactive, and it only felt like a grind when shaking down Mr Shakedown, then putting money into upgrades.

Like a Dragon just feels slower, and more grinding. Story is cool, substories are amazing. But the minigames are less entertaining, and business management is as bad as Kiryus one.

I miss the cabaret so much

msage,

Redesigning cities to be circular with frequent public transports around and in between the circles would be optimal

msage,

League of Legends is so bland and uninteresting.

Just play Dota. It’s the original, far more complex (you can eat trees!), and actually mess with the enemies way more than just dealing chip damage.

msage,

It’s fun though. It has its age, but still there’s nothing like it.

msage,

Which is something I always try to explain to juniors: writing code is cool, but for your sake learn how to READ code.

Not just understanding what it does, but what was it all meant to do. Even reading your own code is a skill that needs some focus.

Side note: I hate it to my core when people copy code mindlessly. Sometimes it’s not even a bug, or a performance issue, but something utterly stupid and much harder to read. But because they didn’t understand it, and didn’t even try, they just copy-pasted it and went on. Ugh.

Trump and GOP use a fake panic about a "trans" Easter to justify their Christian nationalism (www.salon.com)

It’s easy to roll one’s eyes as the self-serving dramatics of MAGA voters using false claims of victimhood as cover for their ugly views. But, as the threatening language in Greene’s tweet shows, this “woe is us” act is deeply dangerous. The hyperbolic conspiracy theories and dehumanizing language serve to convince...

msage,

Do you remember the last time fascists got into power? Do we have to repeat that again?

msage,

It’s kind of funny how I keep reading this exact sentence over and over again

All the issues I had with pulseaudio are resolved with pipewire

just because I had issues with Alsa, and they were all resolved by pulseaudio, which just works for me.

Perhaps I should try PipeWire.

msage,

But we do.

Share rips, encode in any way you want, enjoy.

Support the artists by buying DVDs, merch, go to the cinema.

msage,

I can only have open headphones, closed ones make my ears very uncomfortable.

BD DT 1990T Pros are amazing, maybe a bit cleaner than I’m used to.

Just for the kicks I got xDuoo TA-30, and oh my god that looks absolutely amazing, and sounds even better.

I have no idea what I’m doing btw, just buying random things that sounded good at the shop.

msage,

Nah, you look like a Pro

msage,

They had to order it, they actually ordered both 20 and 30, so I could try both of them with my headphones at the shop.

That part was great.

What wasn’t great that the shop did not have a room for such tests, so I was at the counter, with music blasting from every corner, my open headphones, and two different amps made absolutely no difference, specially when one had to be fully disconnected so the other could be plugged in. So a switch took about three minutes, and if there was any difference, I would not be able to hear it. The clerk said something about the big lamp adding some warmth or something, so I took that one.

And the 30 looked so much better. I wish I could try the 20 at home, but I doubt they would let me. Anyway, I have no regrets regarding my purchase, I only regret I have so little time to sit down and listen to music :(

msage,

I want to love it too. I use dwm, and tried ST for a year, but I gave up. Tmux doesn’t solve every issue, and specially when you have to manage another Tmux session on a server, it gets ridiculous.

I want to use as much suckless as possible, but ST just doesn’t work for me.

msage,

If you can self-host, there are alternatives.

I haven’t used Discord in 6 years.

msage,

But I want to replay 0 so much… I’ve played through 4 but the story just doesn’t hit as much.

msage,

Sure, but you’re from Czech Republic, so you can trim this way down.

msage,

I have switched from Fedora to Ubuntu to Gentoo, and I had almost no issues on any of them.

If you have issues with Windows you need to solve using CLI, might as well just learn to use Linux. It’s nowhere near as bad as people remember.

msage,

Steam console (not deck specifically) predates any proton release (2015).

Valve has been trying to break from Microsoft for a very long time.

The Deck is the first successful one, but far from the first.

msage,

I played Dota 2 from its first beta release, and many years after. Eventually stopped about 2 years ago. In that time I put 4 digit sum into that game, and received nothing that would give me any gameplay advantage. I did it to support the game, that also worked on Linux.

I understand that MTX are not ideal, but there are very different approaches to them. And at least in Dota 2, I can and did support it.

Microsoft stole my Chrome tabs, and it wants yours, too (www.theverge.com)

Last week, I turned on my PC, installed a Windows update, and rebooted to find Microsoft Edge automatically open with the Chrome tabs I was working on before the update. I don’t use Microsoft Edge regularly, and I have Google Chrome set as my default browser. Bleary-eyed at 9AM, it took me a moment to realize that Microsoft...

msage,

That’s why I use Gentoo. I don’t read the code, even just Firefox is absolutely bonkers, but being able to flag out parts of code just feels nice. I know it’s not absolute, but -telemetry gives me a nice warm feeling inside.

msage,

All I’m saying is that regulation does not solve the problem.

I may have been involved in the gambling scene and no amount of regulation solves anything. Not taxes, not self-limiting options. It does not do anything.

And I’m actually suprised how people act like regulations help with the issues. The problems remain, just are slightly less predatory. Wohoo, we did it!

msage,

Look, my point is: we should just ban any gambling. It never does any good, any regulations and taxes end up being paid by the poorest ones. Children or not, just stop it altogether.

msage,

What’s the point?

Fun? Please, casino games are hilarously bad.

Money? It takes from the poor, and even those who win end up wasting it away.

Thrill? I hope not.

So why? Money laundering? Data collection?
