The US constitution clearly states that there is a seperation between church and state.

Unfortunately, I don’t believe you’ll find that wording in the constitution.

It’s basically a cognitive dissonance conference.

    If everyone just stopped tipping all that would happen is that the workers now have a lower pay. The employers have lost no money, and have no reason to change anything.

    No, a portion of the workers are going to say “I can make more at -insert literally any other job here-” and they are going to leave. Then the business has to either fix the problem or shut down. These service industry workers aren’t beholden to their employers, when the pay stops being decent, they’ll dip.

    seathru,
    @seathru@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

    Leave to where? What other job?

    To the same place they would go if everyone collectively boycotted that business like you are calling for. When there’s no customers, the businesses aren’t just going to keep paying them. They’ll end up getting fired or hours cut until they starve or leave. What’s the difference?

    seathru,
    @seathru@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

    Really the only thing we disagree on is that not tipping does/doesn’t hurt the business. I’m with you on everything else.

    I really don’t have a dog in the fight tho. I don’t work in food service nor do I participate much in the dine-in restaurant portion of it. I can count the number of times I’ve sat down and ate at a restaurant in the last 4 years on one hand. I’m also a hypocrite, I over tip for takeout/delivery and perpetuate the problem.

    But I do believe if people collectively ditched tipping, the problem would sort itself out. Not that it wouldn’t be painful for the workers. And not that there aren’t better options (I’m 110% for minimum wage to be the same across the board).

    Hardbody Nissan. It’s kind of a homoerotic name but the 90’s were a different time.

    I was psyched for that until the first thing I saw was other players. I don’t feel alone at all, I’ve got xXxHugeDonger420xXx jerkily flying around my screen. Who do I have to stab to get an actual single player mode?

    Well, thank you. Now I feel silly I went almost 500 hours without finding that setting.

    I couldn’t find where to opt-out in that link, but this worked:

    1. Open Settings.
    2. Navigate to Security.
    3. Select Find My Device.
    4. Toggle Find My Device to Off.

    I use KDE Connect for a simple way to find where I’ve left my phone at home or work (it has some really handy other features too in an open source program). If you need to locate it anywhere, even if it’s in airplane mode, you’re probably going to have to sacrifice privacy for that.

    How to disable scroll wheel in Fedora 39 (Nobara)?

    My mouse won’t stop constantly scrolling and a replacement is a couple days away. How can I temporarily disable the scroll wheel? All the instructions I can find deal with xorg or xinput which I do not have. I can’t find any scroll wheel setting in either settings or piper....

    Wayland. Out of the box Nobara 39. I found the mouse (Logitech G604) in libinput but couldn’t find where to modify the scrolling behavior.

    No company is going to legally go to bat for you for $10/mo. I love how Proton nonchalantly calls out the user’s dumb move in the article:

    Proton provides privacy by default and not anonymity by default because anonymity requires certain user actions to ensure proper OpSec, such as not adding your Apple account as an optional recovery method. Note, Proton does not require adding a recovery address as this information can in theory be turned over under Swiss court order…

    seathru,
    @seathru@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

    It’s best for anonymity to not use one at all. Proton provides a recovery key to allow access to your account if you manage to lock yourself out. Keep that key somewhere safe/secure.

The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.”

    I've Installed multiple Linux Distros on my Editing Rig to see how well Davinci Resolve Studio works. Here are the results.

    So a couple of weeks ago, I made this post asking for help from those who used Linux and Davinci Resolve, and their experience. To those who’s response was effectively “I use arch btw”, I hear you, but that wasn’t the question I wanted to ask....

    If you want to give Fedora a test drive, try Nobara. I believe it has an option to auto install the Nviida drivers on first boot like mint. It’s basically Fedora tweaked towards gaming.

    Need help with my husbands pc

    My husband recently upgraded to an AM4 platform. His issue is that there is no display. The gpu fans look like they are trying to start, but cannot. Additionally, there is no POST sound and the power button, while able to turn on the pc, will not turn it off. The lights on the motherboard work, as do the cpu fans and case fans....

    seathru,
    @seathru@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

    “he says the case has preinstalled standoffs.”

    Yeah, but those standoffs aren’t always installed in the correct positions. And can definitely cause a short. It’s worth double checking. Every standoff needs a corresponding hole in the motherboard. If one doesn’t, remove it.

    Aren’t thermobaric explosives also called vacuum bombs? That’s nothing new.

    It feels kinda messed up, then, that the people who had been led into this with misplaced trust and false promises are the ones getting the bulk of the punishment, and not the people who sold them on lies in the first place.

    I agree. Altho not in the sense that these people are being handed unfair judgement, they’ve all got off extremely light for the acts they committed. But it is a travesty of justice that the ones instigating it have received little to no punishment.

    These people gobbled the propaganda up because it justified their bigotry. So my sympathies are limited.

    I'm relatively unfamiliar with Linux. I'm getting a ThinkPad T460 and want to install Mint on it. Is there anything about the T460 I should know?

    It’s probably been 15 years since I’ve used Linux and Mint seems to be the recommended distro for people who aren’t all that familiar with Linux like me, but I didn’t know if there was anything I should know with this ThinkPad model that anyone is familiar with. My searching around shows people saying everything from it...

    IIRC Mint 21.3 had a touchpad driver keyboard issue on some Thinkpads. It looked like a simple fix if you are effected tho.

    Installing Mint on my Thinkpad Yoga was easier than installing Windows. Everything worked right out of the box.

    Edit: keyboard not touchpad.

    Oops, it was a keyboard issue that affected Thinkpads. It’s in the release notes www.linuxmint.com/rel_virginia.php
