What Are the Best Ideas for Using LineageOS with Root and microG? (github.com)

I have OnePlus 7 Pro that I successfully flashed with LineageOS 21 with MicroG. Do you have some interesting apps or ideas to take advantage of it? I thought of some Magisk modules. Maybe someone is more experience than me! This is the spare smartphone, the main one is GrapheneOS, so I don’t mind breaking stuff.

If you used Gnome over X11 then you’re fine, Wayland needed patches

No Man’s Sky VR in general feels unstable. On Windows it always crashed roughly 20 seconds after loading in. On Linux I have lots of UI corruption

I run foobar2000 to transcode music, apply ReplayGain and edit tags. Except I do all of that on Linux through Wine, I have no clue why someone needs Windows for foobar

Regarding iPhone photos, these are usually stored in HEIF/HEIC format, which is a large annoyance if you want to edit, and sometimes show, those pictures. I work at a photolab and whenever we see customers with iPhones we immediately say “There will be issues to develop your pictures”

I think you’re talking about CPU governors (conservative, ondemand, powersave etc.)

De-googling and privacy on Sony xperia

I have been considering replacing my nearly 7 year old iPhone (although very reluctant) and I was checking for options. Really the only phone that caught my eye was the Sony xperia 1 V, but I found no information about how to degoogle and lock down the device. I really like the features and the built in camera apps, etc. Is...

OP’s phone, Xperia 1 V, is on this website and requires an IMEI number only to generate an unlock code

On KDE you can force VRR for non-fullscreen apps by setting Adaptive Sync to “Always” in Display settings

Used to tip my toes in Linux world circa 2011 as a kid. I found Ubuntu easier to set up than Windows, but the software catalogue was lacking (games, Adobe software).

Came back to it in 2021 when I read about Valve’s commitment to Wine/Proton and DXVK. Tried out Ubuntu once again but I found it unreliable - random lockups, UI bugs (AMD GPU). Whenever I had an issue my answers were featured on Arch wiki, so I thought “why not Arch then”. That and many memes about femboys/trans girls (haii ^^) using Arch made me try it out and… I stayed with it. Would occasionally reboot to Windows for games with anti-cheat and VR, but over time I kept using Windows less and less.

Fast forward to this year, since April my PC is no longer tainted by Microsoft. All of the games I play work on Linux with no quirks to them, KDE Wayland supports screen tearing so I can play competitive games on it, SteamVR works good enough so don’t have to dualboot anymore.

Kinda glad I learned all of this, as Windows is going downhill with all of the hardware requirements and AI buzzwords

The Indie Chat & Recommendation Thread (cdn.imgchest.com)

“Inspired” by the Square-Enix putting their foot in their mouth thread, I thought it’d be interesting to make a little thread about indie games. People always talk about wanting to try different, cheaper titles, but with how hard it is to get good gaming news and the state of advertisement/marketing, word of mouth tends to...

Ultrakill has a Blahaj and it’s description says “it’s a sign of femininity and ‘those who give’”

Used to crash a lot for me prior to 5.24 on Wayland, but now on 6.0 I’m dailing it. Full screen tearing works on Wayland as well so it’s suitable for gaming now

Usually that’s because Linux versions have been abandoned after Steam Machines flopped. Same is with Dying Light, iirc Borderlands 2 as well

Wait Steam Deck now runs Desktop mode in Wayland?

ElectroLisa,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

On launch Steam Deck had it’s desktop/Plasma session set to X11, hence my question

ElectroLisa,

+1, I have huge issues with Electron apps running on native Wayland. Fractional scaling doesn’t work, when I maximise an app it’s not covering my whole screen, same happens when manually resizing windows. What’s worse some apps do scale button positions, ex. native Discord, so when I click a button, something else to the left gets clicked. XWayland works fine though

Yesn’t. Look at HeSuVi and their process of making your own HRTF profiles. Once you’ll get impulse files you can use them with pipewire, they have a preset designed specifically for HeSuVi profiles.

It’s a lengthy process but the end result is roughly the same as with DTS Sound Unbound

Not sure if relevant but I’ve noticed in Hunt: Showdown I keep going too far in an item selector, but only when scrolling downwards. However it doesn’t happen outside of games (Xwayland issue?)
