I’m just this guy, you know. Except on Lemmy.

We’ve lost so many heirloom breeds of plants and animals to industrial farming. Pigs used to be raised for their lard, but the anti-fat movement - which was caused by the food lobby - they bred them to be almost completely lean. Now they can’t live outside anymore because they don’t have fat or thick hair. And their meat is dry and flavorless. The pigs are less happy, and diners are less happy.

Same goes for grocery store vegetables, which aren’t bred for flavor or texture but for shipping durability. Grocery store tomatoes, for example. And this must contribute to the fact that lots of people don’t like vegetables.

I would love a boring government. One where headlines like “Government takes fast, reasonable, and appropriate action to resolve issue and improve lives” aren’t so fucking rare.

I’d vote for the guy just for his name. Ike McCorkle sounds like a character from Ren & Stimpy Pete and Pete and I love it.

Trump’s too stupid to warp a 2x4 from Home Depot. Our government has exploits that lets assholes like him get through and we need to harden it.

Semi_Hemi_Demigod,

It’s not going to happen but our entire system of government needs torn down and rebuilt

Semi_Hemi_Demigod,

I am so jealous of someone who didn’t realize Trump was a complete asshole until now.

Imagine how peaceful their lives are. I bet it feels like walking through thick, warm clouds. You can vaguely see shapes and hear muffled sounds but none of it is important enough to trouble yourself about.

Just a fuzzy, happy brain, floating through the universe.

So jealous.

I scratch my FPS itch with quick games of Ravenfield. The little stick men don’t yell at me and are almost as bad as I am.

Captain Janeway - Hair Master (lemmy.world)

My favorite part was how her hair was in a beautiful and much more complicated knot in the premier episode, then it was a mangled mess after Voyager was thrown to the Delta Quadrant, but they make a show of her fixing it into the simpler knot with her bare hands while walking the corridors from one disaster to another....

Semi_Hemi_Demigod,
@Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world avatar

Reminds me of Captain Burnham’s hair from this last season of Discovery. No matter what she’s doing those braids are tight and her edges are sharp. They must have some crazy styling products in the future. Programmable matter hair gel or something.

The excitement generated by Bernie Sanders / Beto O’Rourke / etc seems to suggest otherwise.

The fact that Bernie lost the nomination twice and Beto is persona non grata in Texas politics suggests that they’re right that there’s no good people in government. Hell, I was excited about Fetterman and look how he turned out.

I don’t think Israel has the manpower to completely wipe out Hamas even if they wanted to, unless they kill or expulse all Gazans.

And if they do that they’ll get the West Bank up in arms.

Adults are just the mean, dumb kids from school only older, and now in charge.

US defines 'major' Rafah operation that would change Israel policy (www.reuters.com)

The White House on Tuesday provided the most complete definition yet of what it considers a “major ground operation” in Rafah that could trigger a change in United States policy toward Israel, and said Israel’s actions there have not yet reached that level....

That has never been the case.

Those nuclear power plants won’t come online for a decade at least. It’s better to spend the money on renewables and storage.

Semi_Hemi_Demigod,
@Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world avatar

By then it will be too late, especially considering the extra CO2 that building them will create with no electricity provided at all

Semi_Hemi_Demigod,
@Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world avatar

The reason we didn’t build any reactors after the 1970s is a combination of nuclear disarmament and slow return on investment, not Greenpeace. If Greenpeace had that much power they would have been able to shut down the oil and gas industry, too.

Semi_Hemi_Demigod,
@Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world avatar

I’d rather spend $10 billion on renewables that would start coming online almost immediately than lock that money up in a plant that won’t start recouping the carbon debt from its construction in a decade.

Here’s what’s going to happen:

  1. Trump will come right out and say on camera that these are quid pro quo deals
  2. The media will say this will finally be the thing that gets him put in prison
  3. Trump will be acquitted.

See in 2011 the formula on how you’d calculate your fleet’s avarage MPG got changed to now factor in vehicle footprint as a variable

My favorite Secretary of Energy Steven Chu said this:

I think the moral of this story is, if you try to fight these new standards, these new ideas, by lobbying against them because some industries will feel threatened, as long as the lawyers and the lobbyists are part of this, progress isn’t gonna be made. As soon as both sides of the aisle, the Republicans and the Democrats, say, “Sorry, it’s gonna happen,” it’s then assigned to the engineers. And then progress is made.

Sadly, the lawyers and the lobbyists have won.

Semi_Hemi_Demigod,
@Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world avatar

We need to make it more expensive to continue the status quo than it is to change. Radical direct action is necessary. Even that probably won’t be enough.

Though, as a climate Posadist, pumping all this carbon into the atmosphere and then setting off a few nukes in resource wars will definitely be a clear signal to ETs that there’s something on earth they could talk to.

Semi_Hemi_Demigod,
@Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world avatar

The fact that no matter who I vote for it’s gonna end up with kids being killed on my dime is the problem. At least Biden will pretend to feel bad about it, which is all I’ve come to expect from my government.

I’ve long given up on the notion that I get to vote for someone I like in this system.

Semi_Hemi_Demigod, (edited )
@Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world avatar

By “likability” I mean that I agree with some or most of the things they consider the right thing. I want to be enthusiastic about them instead of just mainly hoping they don’t do too much damage.

Cue someone posting a billion links about Biden in response because that’s gonna convince me.
