I used to make fun of vegans too, now I am one. Othering a group of people might seem like fun, but just make sure you try not to think too hard about their position. I think you’ll be ok though.
I remember an article where someone asked the developer, Billy Basso, why the PS5 version of the game was over double the file size, and he said it’s probably because the banner image that displays for the game was probably a bigger file than the game itself.
Sony likes to pretend they’re consumer friendly with stuff like this but it always comes with a huge caveat to try to push people into their closed ecosystem. Same idea as releasing PS Studios games on PC, but only just before the PS exclusive sequel comes out.
And even if they were treated well during their lifetime, the way we’ve bred them to produce enormous quantities of eggs, milk and meat would still result in short, horrific lives. It’s atrocious any way you look at it.
It’s all fucked, from the way we’ve bred them, to how we treat them while they’re alive, to how we kill them. To me, perhaps the worst part is we do it almost exclusively for enjoyment.
I appreciate the B99 reference, but the difference between animal products and the plant based alternatives is small and getting smaller by the day. At the end of the day, it’s that difference in enjoyment you get that you are weighing against supporting inhumane practices like the one in this post
From my perspective, raising and killing an animal because you need to in order to survive is more forgivable than doing so just because you enjoy the taste.
While I tend to agree with you on pointless cash grab remakes, THPS 1+2 was the perfect formula for a remake in my opinion. It’s a true remake of a 20+ year old game, reasonably priced, and part of a series that was really starved for a good entry. The added mechanics bring a lot to the overall experience, and most importantly, it’s a blast to play.
It got good reviews. I don’t know about any launch issues, but keep in mind I never played it online and I don’t ever buy games day 1, so if they did have issues they were probably worked out by the time I picked it up.
The thing that always bugged me about awards, especially Reddit gold back in the day, is occasionally I would comment about something wrong with the world, and someone else would see that and give three bucks to Reddit when they could have donated it to an organization trying to solve the issue I was commenting about. Like, I get that you’re showing appreciation for my comment but I’d rather that money go to something other than Reddit premium.

You’re saying “vegans” as if we’re a monolith. I’m sure there are vegans who aren’t aware that plants are considered living, but I’m sure there’s about the same percentage of meat eaters who aren’t either. If every vegan you’ve ever talked to (or some, since you’ve made both claims) has this misconception, I’m willing to bet your sample size is extremely small, or you’re being intentionally dishonest to support your initial claim.
Based on our understanding of biology, a prerequisite for sentience is a central nervous system. Plants have really amazing abilities to pass chemical signals, but they lack any mechanics that would allow them to internalize the signals they receive. For example, I wouldn’t say that my doorbell is sentient just because it can warn me when someone is at my door. Importantly, animals are different from plants in their ability to internalize pain, fear, sadness, etc. This is why animal ethics and welfare are considered important discussions, and why it’s damaging to invoke plant sentience to distract from that discussion.
