Of fucking course they do. Why else would they shitcan 5% of their employees. I’d be shocked if Epic, Sony and Microsoft aren’t doing the exact same thing: fire your creative employees and replace them with a LLM that can churn out Gaming Content that’s easy to monetize. Goodbye original game ideas and hello live service cash grabs.
This begs the question (possibly a stupid question on my part since I’m not very knowledgeable on the topic): if he had a genital preference for wangs, and a sexual preference for trans women, would he in fact be considered straight, or is there another classification for this?
Just picture this man staring at himself in the mirror, chuckling silently as he imagines kissing himself, then pulling out his phone to tweet this…five goddamn times.
The article is much better than the headline, and details how companies are trying to make the devices less of an ecological problem. But the framing in the headline just made me think of this.
Of course there are people who don’t have the means to make these choices, but for those who do (including many here on Lemmy), it’s important to recognize the impact that your decisions make. Far too often I see the corporate contribution used as an excuse to continue supporting these corporations by people who do have the ability to boycott them. It’s an appeal to futility at best, and actively funding the problem at worst.
I’m certainly not defending corporations against social justice, and I don’t see why it has to be one or the other. Why can’t we support progressive legislation, tax reform, unions, social pressure and local economies while also refusing to financially support the companies and industries we oppose?
At no point was I against group action. I was responding to your assertion that individual responsibility was a silly way to look at it, when it’s an important piece of the overall solution - the responsibility to hold companies financially accountable. I’m not saying recycle your needlessly purchased plastic junk or unplug your phone charger. I’m saying don’t give money to companies and industries that are destroying the earth and causing massive amounts of human and animal suffering. Now that that’s cleared up, I think we may actually be in agreement?
I’m so fucking sick of being told how great the economy and stock market are doing when it really translates to “executives are automating away their workers and making insane amounts of money off it.”
This is a great meme and all, but if a machine is telling you something out loud that is already being displayed on a screen, that feature most likely exists to help blind / visually impaired people.
Say you work on a team with, say 50 people. Everyone works hard to generate money, but you’re the star of the show, so naturally you get to keep a little more of that money than everyone else. The question is, how much? Is it morally questionable to make double what everyone else does? What about 10x? What if you keep half for yourself, meaning those 49 other people combined make the same as you? Not enough? What about 100x as much as everyone else? 1000x?
Taylor Swift’s salary is about 1,700x the average in the music industry. People on her team are likely struggling to make ends meet or pay for hospital bills or support a family. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift is hoarding money like a fucking dragon.
The tax rate on the ultra-wealthy has decreased tremendously since the 70s. By making billionaires pay their fair share and closing tax loopholes, we can make huge improvements to wealth inequality and fund social programs that help people who need it most.
It’s also insane that things like washing dishes or packing lunches or changing diapers aren’t part of the baseline expectations for a dad.
This is the one that gets me the most. Like, I do the majority of a lot of these things in addition to taking my kid to daycare, doing almost all of the cooking, etc. I do it because I want to help my family, not because I’m saving up for a toothy blowjob.
How did you get the master sword without finishing Jabu Jabu? Normally you would need all three spiritual stones to get inside the temple of time where the master sword is.
Hate to be that guy, but the icing on frosted Pop Tarts contains gelatin derived from bones, hooves, tendons, ligaments, etc., making it not vegetarian.
