I love this thing where buying something has been replaced by buying an alterable, revokable license to access that thing. It lowers costs and adds flexibility for producers, which allows them to save money, and they pass that savings on to me in the form of higher prices and my shit that I paid real fucking money for just disappearing one day. Then they explain that I never really “owned” it despite the fact that they use the word “own” in the marketing material, because it’s also legal to use words that have known definitions in agreements and then later explain that you were actually using an entirely different, secret definition of that word that’s actually the opposite of what you very purposefully implied.

I can’t help but think that if this sort of thing proliferates that it will essentially hamstring reviews. This particular agreement might be just because the game is in alpha, but it’s part of a broader trend of ToS/EULA wishlists that are so restrictive that they’re probably illegal already buy in order to test that you have to go to court against a huge, overpaid legal team which leads to people having their basic rights violated.

even then, it’s essentially paywalling your rights. you need to go to court, wait for the matter to be adjudicated, hope it works out in your favor, run out any potential appeals, all while paying attorneys and not being able to do something you’re legally entitled to do. If you can’t do all that, then your rights are moot.

Show of hands - who here thinks they can violate a judge’s orders 10 distinct times, including at least one time after already having been fined for past violations and threatened with jail time for further violations, and then sleep in their own bed that night? The rich break the law 10 times and are told 10 separate times that if they do it again there will be consequences, the poor are held in solitary confinement for years without trial until the prosecution admits that they never had any evidence and then gives up.

He knows what the fuck his job is, it’s to direct violence at the poor in order to protect and mollify the rich. The fact is the whole system is set up to prevent this embarrassment and Trump has been too pig-headed and boorish to take advantage of the multiple easy ways out that they’ve been offering him. He was supposed to do what the rest of them do, quietly agree to a generous plea deal to make the whole thing disappear so that no judge has to be broadcast on live TV showing such blatant favoritism to the aristocratic class.

if I were a Trumper trying to learn from Jan 6 the lesson I’d learn is that the mob was all in one place and disorganized, which made them easy to find and target, easy to defend against, and very susceptible to morale issues as soon as they got pushback (watch the Ashley Babbit video. The fact is there were enough of them close enough that they could have easily overwhelmed the lone guard, but when they realized that this was real life where people who get shot die they lost any will to proceed). Small, organized teams spread out all over the country would be very difficult to defend against, could have goals beyond just disrupting a single vote like kidnapping legislators or knocking out utilities, and could have trained, organized people who are actually ready and willing to put their lives on the line.
