The thing I liked most about that episode was that Moriarty stopped being an evil mastermind when he got real intelligence, found a way to gather the important people in the room with him, and just laid out what it was that happened and asked the questions he needed to to get the information he wanted, like everyone is constantly yelling at characters in shows/movies to do. He cut through all the nonsense, and immediately made friends from enemies.
It just shows how writers make “smart” people dumb.
Dude is supposed to be a child prodigy on the ship. He solves problems better and faster than everyone else who are way more qualified and experienced and intelligent at their Stations. He comes off as pretentious.
He also lacks even a modicum of wisdom, despite being surrounded by wise role models. He almost destroyed the Enterprise twice, and he wasn’t even a real member of the crew. When he went to the academy he got some other kids killed because of his lack of wisdom. I get that he’s a kid, and kids make dumb decisions, but Wes made some very large adult sized mistakes.
Considering he would have gone on to become a member of the nx enterprise crew I would love that. A way to sneak in a continuation of a series that got killed when it was about to get good.
My main issue with the show is Burnham, so I don’t think there’s anything they can do to fix it for me unless they kill her off and get a new lead. The show has been going long enough, I’d watch one last season, but I think they need to end it and focus on strange new worlds and more shows like that.
I’m finding I love it all. As a kid I watched TOS reruns and I’ll always cherish those. TNG quickly grew on me and is a favorite.
I gave up after a few seasons of DS9 and Voyager but started again from the beginning last year and it’s been great so far.
I recently started Enterprise which I gave up on at the season 1 finale. Glad I did; I like a lot about it.
SNW was awesome the first watch. I’m finding it hard to rewatch most episodes but maybe with more time. But yeah I think it really shows a lot of love and respect for TOS. I think they found a great balance between camp and adventure and sci fi and all the other aspects of TOS.
Discovery put me off at first but at least the first couple seasons that I’ve seen I appreciate the story and the cinematography. The sorry and characters hooked me in.
Lower Decks is just plain fantastic. Started it last year. Already watched it all twice lol. Probably will just rewatch it regularly lol.
You know… The biggest thing I like about TOS? This is gonna sound schlocky but… Hope. The idea that maybe, just maybe, there is some way we manage not to destroy ourselves, and somehow find a way to be better–to overcome the worst parts of our nature.
I really need that kind of hope and inspiration with as bleak and hopeless as everything has seemed for so many years now.
not schlocky at all. The hope is what makes Star Trek, Star Trek. It was always meant to be a beacon of hope, a vision of the future where we could look past our differences and work toward our betterment as a species, and as a member of a bigger community. And that holding on to that, fighting for what we believe in, even what it’s hard, especially when it’s hard, is worth it.
