1rre,

The correct plural is actually wug, or dialect weg.

1rre,

“Most historical settings”

Roman sure, especially as you get closer to Africa but nonzero elsewhere also

Middle ages, mediæval and renaissance almost certainly limited to higher nobility households either as nobles or “interesting” servants or major trading ports, especially closer to Africa.

The chances of a mediæval serf in a germanic country not looking northern Europe, or Mediterranean at a huge stretch, are functionally zero though, as anyone who came with the Romans will have been long dead with their genetics widely dispersed, and anyone who came over recently would likely be in an urban area, with marriage or higher level employment being their only chance to end up in a rural area.

alt-textIt blows our hivemind that the United States doesn’t use the ISO 216 paper size standard (A4, A5 and the gang). 1rre,

Just use multiple pages if needed?

Who needs all their words on a single huge page like some sort of scroll?

1rre,

2 was by far the most polished, but 3 had more features so I guess ideal lies somewhere in the middle

1rre,

the data is clearly fucked given the whole UK mess, and given it’s all either small countries, authoritarian hellholes or both which have their country flag I’m inclined to believe it’s a “no data” placeholder

1rre,

Given Turkmenistan’s past record it wouldn’t even shock me to find out there’s a law saying people have to do exactly that, but yeah you’re probably right

1rre,

At least it makes educated guesses rather than just flipping a coin as to whether to include a paragraph or not like that bot does

He’s not wrong in that the foreigner wants cookies from any source, but he’s not being truthful in that he’s misrepresenting the situation by implying the only cookie that can be given away is the worker’s

1rre,

I heard he was rebuilt after a long and arduous war on the planet Kopirite

1rre,

coke has a zero sugar …

and yet they’re probably charging the same as full sugar, probably while adding sweeteners to the full sugar version?

I hate to break it to you but sweetened drinks aren’t much better for you than sugary ones, but are way cheaper to produce, so this is just coke wanting to save money yet again

1rre,

Water, unsweetened tea, unsweetened coffee, milk and countless other non-sweetened or minimally sweetened drinks are way better for you than any sweetened drink though.

“0 calorie” sweetened drinks are bad for you not because of their content but because eating sweet things increases your appetite as a reaction to sweet things being comparatively rare in nature, even if it’s not sugar, so it’s been proven that you’re more likely to overeat and snack between meals (where the snacks are often also unhealthy) following consuming sweet drinks (I can’t remember how long the effects stick around for but it’s long enough that it’ll stretch to your next meal, or make you want a snack before it), regardless of whether that food is sweet or not. Eating more also makes you lethargic so you’re less likely to burn the extra calories.

The issue is this can be palmed off by the manufacturer as the fault of the people eating more, when fast food restaurants have anecdotally known this since forever and so include a sweet drink in their meal so that you want a bigger meal that you’ll pay more for.

Even if you actively ensure that you’re not letting it affect your appetite, for the majority of the general population that is not the case, so in practice they’re close enough to being just as bad that it doesn’t matter which you have

1rre,

Idk it depends, I got billed close to 1000€ by German healthcare after damaging a ligament despite me having a valid EHIC because “you’re not a German resident so you have to pay”, it took forever dealing with my own healthcare system who refunded me and I assume chased it up with your system, but still they’re a bunch of scammers

1rre,

That’s a human action anyway though… Not a “it’s been a while since you opened our app time to drag you back” notification

1rre,

50 to your destination vs 80

I think I’d rather take 50 actually

1rre,

If they’re middle names for Sigurd then frankly who cares, it’s a cool name… Two middle names is common and so one more isn’t exactly going overboard

1rre,

From speaking to Russians the overwhelming majority of people, especially in rural areas but also to a great extent in cities, probably correctly believe that elections are a waste of time because they’re not going to change the status quo or I guess if someone else is elected create a power struggle, so people just vote for the incumbent as they don’t want to cause trouble - the national attitude is “there’s nothing you can do about it”

While that’s very different from supporting Putin, it’s still intending to vote for him from a pollster’s point of view, so even in third party polls his “support” is going to appear higher than it is as they’re not measuring that, they’re measuring number of votes

1rre,

If there’s a gold rush, you want to run the railroads, build the houses, sell the shovels and open the general store I guess

1rre,

Look at the white zigzags, they’re what trick your brain. If you switch to the square lines after keeping the white zigzags in mind you should be able to see both and your brain doesn’t switch back and forth between them.

1rre,

Implicitly includes Taylor though, she’s not off the hook

Just all the others are also on the hook now

1rre,

> items decaying due to not being cared for > items being actively destroyed because people don’t care about them (Elgin Marbles moment, if they hadn’t been stolen they would’ve been pulverised to make building materials and yet now Greece are crying for them back) > items being actively destroyed for political reasons

There are huge amounts of things in Western museums that were looted, stolen, or otherwise illegitimately acquired (Koh I Noor among other things), but equally a lot of stuff was a case of “eh we don’t want it so if you’re going to pay for it in cash we’ll snap your hand off” - if you took something valued by the people then yeah you should give it back, but if you saved something unwanted from getting destroyed then I think the moral high ground is with the museum when they get a request for it to be returned

1rre,

I mean if you go back 300 years, but then if you go back 1000-1300 then most of England & Scotland starts to look pretty German (Anglo-Saxons, Norse), with England getting significant French & Scandinavian (Norman = French Norse) influence after and tenuously Austrian (Celts) before that… The native British people were completely wiped out at least twice before that, so frankly all sorts of European nations could have a claim if Putin rules applied

1rre,

I had to call the electricity company to resolve a fucking clusterfuck of their making the other day (long story short my electricity meter is faulty), and after 3-4 calls I got to someone who said “jesus christ” after I explained my situation and how they’d made it worse trying to resolve it…

She didn’t fix it, it’s still not fully fixed after a further 4 days including 29 hours without power, but gee did I feel like I was speaking to a fellow human who was trying to help in that conversation above all others I had with them

1rre,

If you’re a germaphobe then surely you should know that 100% salt is enough to yeet literally any microorganism to the back of beyond; in fact anything over 30% is

That lamp is more hygienic than your dinner plate, more than the inside of any food package and infinitely more than your hands even after you’ve just washed them

1rre,

Yeah agreed that while you’re more than likely not gonna get sick from it unless you have an allergic reaction of some sort, it’s still probably dusty as those things are a nightmare to clean and so not a pleasant lick

1rre,

I’m only getting into semantics because you are - that statement is singular and definite, therefore it can only be taken to have one of two meanings:

A) a given straight man is selected at the start, and once he is voted out it ends.

B) it ends once the final straight man is voted out, as at that point he would be the straight man. This can never occur as he would win by being the only one remaining, so there would be no vote for him to vote himself out.

If they’re all straight without a single selection at the start, then there is not a definite straight man, and even if there is one selected at the start there’s only a 1/12 chance he gets voted out first.

the appeal was declined instantaneously

I hate this so much and it was the reason I left Facebook after receiving a “warning” for the first time and getting the appeal denied despite the comment being completely benign (something like “why does Brazil fucking hate Czechs so much?” under a map of Brazil’s approval of each country in Europe, where their approval of Czechia was remarkably low - I appreciate it probably saw “fucking hate Czechs” and flagged it, but any remotely human reviewer should have seen the context and immediately understood, especially when running a more in depth review as part of the appeal)

All the major tech companies seem to do this and I don’t know why they even bother… If you want to give the illusion you’re considering the appeal, leave it at least an hour or so, but if you’re auto-declining them then just don’t give people the option to appeal in the first place as you’ll just make them mad

1rre,

One reason is that Epic are very dismissive of Linux, while Steam go out of their way to be supportive and GOG are supportive when it’s convenient

Another is trying to lock games into exclusives with them, which other distribution platforms don’t do so much

That said, if you don’t play games without cross platform multiplayer and don’t care about Linux support or see yourself caring any time soon, there’s not a huge reason to push you towards steam and away from epic. GOG is more of an anti-DRM thing, however barring sales the price and the cut for the devs is identical on all of them and it’s the same game aside from DRM.

1rre,

Except Hasbro didn’t get a game of the year, “someone who licenced an insignificant property of theirs” did, and so who cares (other than everyone who made/enjoyed the game, but nobody “important” like Hasbro’s execs or stockholders)

1rre,

If at least 1 person in the room of 400 is shot per day they’d be dead in just over a year…

Last I checked the population of the US wasn’t plummeting, so what else is wrong here?

1rre,

Oh no I see the point, but I’m hardly going to believe a point that’s surrounded by obvious mistakes or embellishments

1rre,

1000 bugs isn’t that big, especially when it’s the same bug surfacing in different ways or bugs you either barely notice or look past (but do notice, eg an alignment issue on the ui)
