Fun fact: Ghoti is a (sort of) derogatory term for people with ancestry from West Bengal (a state in India) used by people with ancestry from Bangladesh. (Sort of, because no one really considers it offensive. The modern use is usually limited to signifying cultural differences.)

It depends. It’s perfectly acceptable to boil the tea for many Indian preparations (usually called cha or chai).

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Which is a type of tea.

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Why do you think that the Chinese way is the only way to prepare authentic tea? It’s so weird dude. We have an ancient tea tradition in India. That’s my point. That a purist might think this method as the proper way too. And it’d be just as valid.

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I’m not the one who’s trying to change history here. We know that the Chinese have the oldest recorded tea consumption. Doesn’t make that the only valid way of doing it. It’s like saying that there’s only one authentic way to cook a potato, which is whatever the first person did with it.

And about whatever you said about tea being a new thing in India, it’s not accurate. It was first mass produced after the British came. But it actually goes back quite a bit. Camellia sinensis var. assamica is actually indigenous to the Assam region of India, and not “stolen from the Chinese”. Some think that some tribes in India (Singpho, Khamti) have been consuming tea from at least the 12th Century, though they had a different name for it. Some (A Revision of the Genus Camellia by Robert Sealy) think it goes back further, but idk about that.

But honestly, that’s not even the point. Why did you even feel the need to type this comment? Even if it was a 200 old tradition, that’s a pretty long time. And it should be accepted as a valid way of brewing. I’m not even disputing anything. I simply pointed out that there are alternative traditions. That the world isn’t fucking black and white. Seriously dude, when did I say anything that claimed that Indians invented tea? This isn’t twitter, no need to do this shit here.

What phone are you using? I’ve used it my many Android devices from different manufacturers. Always worked flawlessly.

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Interesting. I currently use it on a Samsung Galaxy S22 and a Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. In the past, I’ve used OnePlus, Redmi, and Realme devices. Always worked.

Maybe post it in their forum? They’re usually very helpful.

Something like this happened on my sister’s laptop. She got a new laptop with Windows 11. She followed some website to set up Syncthing, but it wasn’t syncing. Turns out, there’s some kind of “trusted network” deal that needs to be figured out. (Don’t remember the exact term anymore.) Anyway, helped her fix it, and installed Debian Stable on it the next time I was visiting.

Use it too much, and your friends will have cancer.

SexualPolytope,

I remember there being some Android phone (some generation of Samsung Galaxy S series probably) with a “feature” where it pauses video playback if you look away from it. Good thing it didn’t catch on.

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Yep, that’s the one.

Side note: If I’m wearing headphones, and you don’t know me, and you disturb me without a good reason, I won’t hurt you or anything, but know that you’re a bad bad person.

How I see it (and so do many others) is that this showed BJP that they won’t get away with anything and everything. That their religious politics is getting old. People want jobs, and growth.

Many thought that defeating BJP is simply impossible. If you followed the Indian media, you’ll know that Modi was portrayed as this irreplaceable leader. Many voted for BJP simply because they thought that they had no other option. This election showed them that it’s not true, that BJP can be defeated. If not anything else, we have a much stronger opposition now. BJP will have to think twice before making stupid decisions.

To be fair, he was the most culturally relevant homer for almost 2700 years. (And still is, outside of US and maybe a few other countries.)

P.S. I know it’s a shitposting community.

I didn’t mean that I’d do it. Just that it takes energy to be able to deal with annoying people, even if you’re fucking with them.

I don’t know if you’re joking, but have you ever drunk from a pond?

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

These are common in India. We call them cycle vans.

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Yep. I’m teaching Calc-3 this summer. Hate the commute, and the prep. Classes can actually be fun sometimes. At least it keeps me from spending three months drunk and high.

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Opposite for me lol. I’m fine with the research, and coursework. Hate teaching. Again, mostly for the prep. Interacting with students in class is nice.

On average, getting married early is a bad decision.

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I’m not saying it’s always bad. I’m sure you’re very happy. But anecdotes don’t mean much. People are still growing up when they’re 20.

It’s funny that the supported distros for an video editor are server focused ones.

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

From what I understand, they don’t want 3rd party apps to use their servers.

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

For example while iMessage is a walled garden, if the list was sorted by ease of use, it should be first

Should it, though? It requires the user to buy an Apple device.

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I don’t buy that logic. How is it cross-platform? (It technically is, but c’mon. All of these OSs are in the walled garden.) I agree about RCS requiring Android, but that doesn’t really put it lower than iMessage, since that also requires you to buy a device. (iMessage does have more features, though.) Apple has promised to support RCS in iPhones, so this should soon change. Also, why would iMessage be rated higher than Signal using this logic? What’s easier, buying a device or installing an app on your existing device? (If someone doesn’t have any mobile device, I don’t think they really care about messaging anyway. So I don’t consider that as a proper prerequisite.)

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Not giving a fuck also doesn’t require any talent.

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

LaTeX. As someone in academia, I absolutely love it. It has some issues like package incompatibility, but it’s far far better than anything else I’ve used. It’s basically ubiquitous in academia, and I wish it were the case everywhere else as well.

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

IDK dude. My sister is doing master’s in Philosophy. She uses LaTeX, and so do most others in her batch.

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

One small comment. You can put the global configs inside $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/git/config, and it’s loaded before ~/.gitconfig.

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Your opinion about Arch is outdated at best. I run Arch, and I don’t think I needed to do any tinkering in the last few months. For first time Arch users, I’ll recommend them to just use EndeavourOS. I have it on my laptop, and it’s basically Arch, but with a hassle free installation process.

I’m fortunate to have a great family, but I do see the point. My ex’s family was a piece of work.

Only in US. In many (most?) countries, credit cards do have PINs.

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

What credit card company? That seems like such blatant fraud.

Once my friend put total in place of tips. He was very drunk that day. He went over next day to talk to them and they obviously fixed it. That seems like common sense to me.

SexualPolytope,
@SexualPolytope@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I sometimes am. I just don’t feel like talking about it.
