Soup,

French is technically a romance language but it is very different from the others.

Soup,

That’s really the kind of organizational skillset that’ll get things done. /s

Even with their fear-mongering and everything I will never understand why the right keeps electing the kind of people who refuse to show any level of qualification. Like ok, you hate taxes and think that corporations should have the right to poison your waterways, but why are you electing the blatant liars and fraudsters who can’t even seem to put their pants on the right way ‘round? At least go for someone who seems to have some level of skill.

Oh, right, people with skill are less and less likely to actually ascribe to those broken ideologies. Maybe that should be a sign.

Soup,

It probably does, but I’m just not sure for how long. It’s a lot of force placed in very awkward places. You would need high tolerances so the slop won’t be magnified towards the other end and the leverage would also mean that any imperfection(easy to pick up since the mechanism in unshieldable and on the rim) would very quickly reduce those tolerances to a cheap joke.

Very cool idea and definitely worth trying for the lols but anyone who thinks this would be practical longterm probably doesn’t deserve the dispoable income required to purchase it.

Soup,

The MAGA morons are the tools used by the far right leaders to get their way. Many of them are just terrified due to an intense ignorance and if they got smarter we might actually be doing ok.

Soup,

Well that’s the thing, the base would be smart enough to elect those who would actually want to do those things instead of the current gaggle of goons.

US aircraft carrier counters false Houthi claims with 'Taco Tuesdays' as deployment stretches on - AP (apnews.com)

“I think it’s been about two or three times in the past six months we’ve allegedly been sunk, which we have not been,” Hill told The Associated Press during a recent visit to the carrier. “It is almost comical at this point. They’re attempting to maybe inspire themselves through misinformation, but it doesn’t work...

Soup,

These far-right and otherwise insane ideologies need misinformation to work. Even with the ability to spread it being greater these days it’s also way to easy to doublecheck them with a solid level of confidence and they struggle to be consistent even amongst themselves. They still have power and we can’t get complacent but it sure could be a lot worse.

And then there’s Germany fielding a Nazi party and actually getting some traction lol

Soup,

“Earn”

You sure about that, champ?

Soup,

Or Sting playing for Microsoft execs on an island retreat.

It’s like, they don’t need the money so what the hell are they doing?

Soup,

I’ve only seen the memes.

I thought that character was a she.

Huh.

Soup,

It would be the same as ending the war Ukraine by letting Russia keep what they stole. Zero incentive not to keep doing it and it validates the side of the aggressor by saying “wow you both need to stop fighting”.

Right-wingers love to cite self-defense as reasons why they should own guns and be able to shoot people who simply knock on their front door but the second a brown person does it after years of being systematically oppressed/genocided suddenly they’re just as guilty as the oppressor, if not more so.

In short, wanting peace in that way is a pretty little lie meant to legitimize terror campaigns and invalidate the damage done to the victims. It’s full of horseshit.

Soup,

In the same way that North Korea has “Democratic” in the name, sure. It’s all so surface level as to be essentially meaningless. While I agree that fairness does involve some arguing of that kind of a technicality it really only serves to validate the idea that Israel is justified in any way.

Israel wants to eradicate an entire culture and their people. They want to steal their land and are doing so with the help of major world powers. They bomb hospitals, shoot civilians, and terrorize Palestinians on the basis that they’re somehow owed that land. Hamas retaliated and now Israel is complaining by obliterating the entire country. The “peace” this lady wants is the peace for Israel to continue to do these things without retaliation. She doesn’t want peace, she wants submission.

The mega rich are just terrified of consequences and try, every day, to get their poor behaviour and lack of humanity written into laws and precedent so that they don’t have to ever to take blame for any of the rotten shit they pull.

Soup,

Relying on a hope that someone will do good is, and always has been, a terrible idea. We need to fix that shit at its core.

Soup,

We’d get to watch Microsoft somehow destroy it, which would be as amazing as it would be awful. They really know how to make a great product terrible.

Though, who am I kidding, they’d just close the entire thing down and expect people to switch to their store. That’s all capitalism’s “competition” is good for these days.

Soup,

Ah, I misread(the y in “they” is missing and I got thrown off haha)

Dude that would be funny as hell and Microsoft fucking deserves it. They don’t make a single quality product; all they seem to be able to do is reskin a ‘90s Windows OS as a worse product for ten thousandth time and close competitors so they don’t need to do any real work.

Soup,

Considering what an awful job they do with everything they touch maybe we should just can the whole company and give that back to the people of the world who’ve needed to suffer under their bullshit for far too long.

They can keep some money for Excel, I guess.

Soup,

I wonder how many times we can find Republicans referencing Hunter Biden? Or any number of things they claim beyond simply stating a fact like “Trump is currently charged with…[insert charge but not claim of guilt]”.

The Biden Campaign Has a Trump-Fatigue Problem (nymag.com)

Joe Biden’s campaign is facing a strategic dilemma. Since the president’s job-approval ratings have been consistently low, his path to reelection depends on making 2024 a comparative choice between himself and Donald Trump, his scary, extremist predecessor. That task is becoming more urgent as evidence emerges that a sizable...

Almost like he should just listen to the voters and also all the fucking scientists and economists if he wants to energize tired voters.

“Stop selling Israel weapons.” “Be more aggressive with climate policy, we’re already late and can’t dilly-dally anymore.” “Oh my god just actually make a fucking effort instead of offering lukewarm responses all the time.”

It’s not hard, and the science backs up the demands.

Soup,

A genius rebuttal, why didn’t I think of that?

Soup,

Someone else pointed out that the east cost apparently uses 3mil barrels per day. I highly doubt costs will be cut here. Plus the U.S. already has cheap as dirt gas prices. The guy you’re reaponding to is mad at imaginary solutions.

If Biden wants to help people he needs to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels. He needs to revise the rules that incentivise building larger, hungrier vehicles, and the citizens need to stop bitching and moaning while driving around objectively worthless guzzlers. Anyone who drives a truck or SUV when they could easily just own a station wagon has negative respect from me.

I am aware, also, that several things can happen at once but centrists are always so fucking weak in their responses to anything and never solve any problems without the left having to twist their arm every which way for decades. It’s exhausting.

Soup,

Yes, because what we really need is to incentivize more usage of fossil fuels.

Soup,

The EV thing isn’t the worst, though I’d like to see that money going towards public transportation for more people. It’ll always be better and all that really does is help the rich stay richer while poorer folk still need to buy used gas-powered vehicles until a used EV market picks up.

Maybe it’s in there and I just didn’t see it but the biggest issue with the CAFE laws is that there are exceptions for huge vehicles that no one needs which makes them cheaper to manufacture. A smaller, lighter wagon will generally have more space, actually, and be better on fuel but no one makes them because they realized they could just pump ads at people focused on “feeling powerful” in large vehicles. You can also make the wagons EV and the smaller size and weight will improve their range, too. You’re looking at how things are instead of how they easily could be(and were not too long ago).

I know Biden’s done ok with some stuff but it’s still kinda weak and the fact that he’s looking for a pat on the back for the bare minimum is kinda pathetic. And people still have to vote for the dumbass because the DNC won’t let anyone better come forward and the GOP are a disaster like no other.

Soup,

Hey :(

Looks like one of those class rings, maybe, and tjat could very well be a “peaked in college” thing.

Soup,

I dunno, if they used maple deep-browned beans and we knew they were in there before hand that could be really good, I think. Surprise plain beans might make me immediately eject the contents of my stomach, on contact, just to make sure that nothing could make it down there.

Soup,

They definitely didn’t plan walking out. It’s hard to keep a secret even with intelligent people and these folk are dumb as rocks. Doesn’t change anything, people should vote anyway; it always matters.

Soup,

“That’s all well and good, but what about one of the worst examples of it?”

You are never going to understand their point because you seem to have no desire to actually take any of this conversation seriously.

Capitalism was literally designed to continue the powers of a monarchy when it was obvious that people were revolting and that’s literally in the texts, it’s history. Much more regulated and “people first” societies exist, largely in Europe, and they thrive but you’re ignoring, that, too.

Soup,

“Honesty”? Well maybe that’s step one: understand why those arguments you’ve been fed are disingenuous and not valid.

Those countries are, by and large, much happier than us in North America. They don’t experience nearly the levels of mass poverty that countries focused on money over citizens do, and if it weren’t for the death throes of capitalism injecting intense amounts of rightwing propoganda into the world right now they’d be even better off. Nearly half of America is below the official poverty line and many of the rest don’t realize how bad they have it because that line doesn’t move as quickly as it should.

They have safety nets for people in a bund and support structures for everyone. In the U.S. people need to refuse ambulances because they cost too much. Police kill people at an insane rate here, even in Canada, and while they are far from perfect in Europe they are at least not killing their citizens in the fucking street and in their homes. They have more green initiatives and they work together, using the EU, to push for real and important changes that capitalism does nothing to address. As the rightwing gets more and more extreme we do see more and more issues, of course, as the whole MO of those governments is to break down the government’s ability to function such that it can replaced by private business(although they’re also enjoying using the power to restrict the freedoms of minority groups such as the immigrants you mentioned).

Yes, it is not perfect, but if we’re arguing about that vs capitalism it’s a no-contest. Capitalism doesn’t even pretend to care about people, only keeping money, and therefore power, in the hands of those who least deserve it. That’s the whole game, and it’s awful for everyone.

Oh, and Venezuela? Yea, the CIA, in order to push the U.S.’s fucked up capitalist garbage, is constantly meddling in South America’s business. To “protect American interests” they’ve funded literal death squads for crying out loud.

If you want to talk about anarchy or adjacent options, those will just devolve into a completely unregulated disaster. There’s a reason we have government and arachists are just too fucking lazy to build something that works so they just want to destroy things that aren’t 100% perfect.

Soup,

Man, corps will do anything to make sure people are miserable even if it costs them more. Fucking wild.

Four-day work weeks make people happier and more productive and will actually save money without even paying people less and they just refuse to take the nice way out.

Soup,

More and I wonder why we allow companies to buy up competition. Why are companies allowed to own other companies at all, anyway? Seems kinda fuckin’ ridiculous.

I know there’s good to it, but without stricter control it eventually just does the same thing as every other capitalist mechanism: Result in the power being used to kill competition and/or turn good projects into sterile money machines until eventually their reputation is garbage.

I’m not advocating for communism or anything but holy shit we gotta be more in top of this. Microsoft shouldn’t even be allowed to be in control of themselves let along anyone else. They can’t make a single good product and here we are…

Soup,

100%, and that’s how they getcha. Like buying stocks always being sold as if it’s a regular person buying $1,000 of shares in a company they want to see grow while some empty suits are using millions of dollars to try to short a business to make some quick cash.

It’s fucked up.

Soup,

Leaving Windows is difficult for a lot of people as Linux is quite there yet for grandma and Apple products, while I love them, are expensive. Most people are moving to having it all on their phone, though, but that also means even less care about putting money or energy into a whole-ass computer.

Excel is good but for most people Google Sheets is fine(are cheaper). The rest of Office is crap.

The Xbox is certainly not worth it. Makes me sad because I like the controller more but that’s life, I guess. Besides, they didn’t invent it anyway, it was a Sega(I believe) thing.

For my part I’ll buy the controllers for PC games, and my friend is working on getting us reliable Linux setups, but for most people it’s not so easy. They don’t know what they don’t know, either.

Soup,

That’s just a sequence of events. “I stood up and then my car alarm went off” doesn’t mean those events are linked. The worm probably just doesn’t live that long or something.

There are myriad things we can point to to mock these people but showing off our poor reading comprehension isn’t going to help.

Soup,

And there are millions of people who’s homes have been irrevocably changed for the worse by a warming planet. Even those further north are being impacted as they experience floods in some places, droughts in others, and more extreme weather in general.

I don’t give a shit about the mushrooms.

Soup,

I think it’s funny, and a great joke in that we don’t say “neopolitan” very often so I could 1,000% see someone call it “Napoliatin” ice cream or something. There’s still a layer of “truth” to make the joke quality. It’s a shitpost with layers.

Soup,

Damn, bro. How do I return my laugh? Is there a department I have to talk speak to or a mail-in form or something?

Guess Who’s Coming to Elon’s Dinner (puck.news)

“On a brisk Friday evening earlier this month, David Sacks and Elon Musk convened a dozen or so of America’s most powerful business leaders for dinner at Sacks’ $23 million, 11,000-square-foot home in the Hollywood Hills. The dinner party, according to people familiar with the intimate gathering, comprised a veritable...

Remember kids: Management will never risk a damn thing and even when they do lose they’ll be ok because they put all your money into a rainy fund. And they’ll blame every single person but themselves.

Soup,

Money should be a tool, a mechanism, and not the goal. But since it is things are exactly as you describe.

Soup, (edited )

The question you have to ask here is “if anyone can just sign up then how was she noticed, and if they spend any time verifying then how did they not realize she was very serious about her womanhood?”. She’s had gender-affirming surgery and you’re really out here saying “if they let anyone in simply based on them saying ‘I’m a woman’?”.

They’re clearly doing some work here and not doing it very well. And you’re missing very important facts.
