Not to mention “barley in middle school”

I don’t know about you, but I think that’s pretty good for a cereal crop.

I believe that’s a cantaloupe.

It’s actually not (just) the acidity. Pineapples and several other tropical fruits have an enzyme called papain that breaks down peptide bonds in a rather unique way, to the point that the texture of the meat can become quite off-putting if the enzyme is not used properly

Edit: acidic or not, it’s definitely best not to put any sensitive parts of your anatomy in pineapple juice

Majority of Americans wrongly believe US is in recession – and most blame Biden (www.theguardian.com)

Nearly three in five Americans wrongly believe the US is in an economic recession, and the majority blame the Biden administration, according to a Harris poll conducted exclusively for the Guardian. The survey found persistent pessimism about the economy as election day draws closer....

making gang bucks

I think you mean “like gangbusters,” but it’s totally possible “making gang bucks” is a term I just haven’t heard before.

Cheers!

I get that! I’m partial to “getting two birds stoned at once” and “people in glass houses sink ships” myself.

I’m inclined to agree with you, but Valve doesn’t often miss

I used Sync at first because of the similarity to reddit, but I finally got tired of the obnoxious ads and the hypocrisy of using an ad-supported app to browse a completely ad-free service, so a month ago I switched to Voyager and I haven’t looked back. It’s not perfect, but it’s a lot better than Sync and it’s ad-free.

It’s sad to see the sequel get abandoned like this.

Especially when KSP has had such an active and vibrant community for a decade

Aunt and niece, I think. I haven’t watched much of the reboot, but I think that’s what they said at some point in season 1

Duh, I knew that. I was just testing you… ^/s^

I’d argue that those were two separate clauses and aren’t related.

Bigots and billionaires don’t have to be a detriment to humanity

They could do positive things for society

My compost pile has plenty of room

I have space in my yard to increase the amount of compost I produce.

Those two clauses are separate statements, IMHO. A non sequitur, sure, but unrelated, nonetheless

I’ve heard from many long time users that those cravings never really go away. But I wouldn’t describe it as “cravings.” I would describe it as rose colored glasses.

I never really thought I had a serious habit, but I dabbled in uppers for a few years before getting diagnosed as ADHD (and then taking Adderall for the last decade), and your words perfectly describe how I think about cocaine. I really did enjoy coke, and I had a lot of good times with my buddies while doing lines all night, but I don’t really “crave” coke. I miss the ritual of it and the rush as it hits your bloodstream, and if the right person offered me some right now, I’d absolutely rip a rail, but I know the experience simply will not be as good as it was then.

Once you know what you’re missing, you’ll always miss it, I think.

This feels like what Fear and Loathing would have been like if they were more into (slash had knowledge of) dissociatives.

Edit: I guess ether is close, but it’s still nothing like a good k-hole or DXM trip.

NielsBohron,
@NielsBohron@lemmy.world avatar

Well, when “hunting and fishing gear” includes boats, ATV’s, deer blinds, guns, etc., then yeah, you kinda do.

Plus, a large chunk of the space is taken up with “decor” which is mostly taxidermy, aquariums, and reproductions of all sorts of big game trophies.

As are the Ellis and Lemire runs. The Brian Wood run is better than most anything in modern Marvel, too.

Edit: reading Lemire’s run a day or two after a decent psychedelic or dissociative experience will have you questioning your own sanity in a super fun and slightly terrifying way.

Edit 2: man, everything Warren Ellis touched was absolutely fantastic for a long while. It’s a shame he wound up having more than slightly problematic relationships with fans…

Gameplay mechanics were also a lot better with more replayability. (lemmy.world)

Ignoring the lack of updates if the game is buggy, games back then were also more focused on quality and make gamers replay the game with unlockable features based on skills, not money. I can’t count the number of times I played Metal Gear Solid games over and over to unlock new features playing the hardest difficulty and with...

NielsBohron,
@NielsBohron@lemmy.world avatar

That’s some survivorship bias shit right here. I can’t tell you how many shitty, buggy games I played in the days of early console and PC gaming. Even games that were revolutionary and objectively good games sometimes had game-breaking bugs, but often it was harder to find them without the internet.

Plus, don’t you remember expansion packs? That was the original form of DLC.

I do go without. The only time I ever play online is playing PvE games with my good IRL friends that live in different countries and states now, and that’s maybe twice a month.

No randoms, no tantrums when we make noob mistakes, no toxicity. When my friends aren’t around, I play single player games or play with bots instead of people. I highly recommend it.

I’m all for science, but I don’t want to risk her coming back. The safest plan is to use fire and acid. I don’t know if it’s necessary, but fire and acid will finish off all manner of villains.

If you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention.

NielsBohron,
@NielsBohron@lemmy.world avatar

I understand. I feel that way occasionally, too, but honestly, I think that’s irresponsible. Apathy and an unwillingness to pay attention to injustice are huge contributing factors to why the world is as fucked as it is today.

Biden Transcript Calls Into Question Hur’s Memory Claims: The president was never even asked about the timing of his son’s death (www.thedailybeast.com)

I think it’s safe to say that person was not arguing in good faith.

Or that they missed the obvious allusions as a child and haven’t gone back and rewatched it with an adult’s knowledge of context.

NielsBohron,

Fair. There’s misremembering something from your childhood and then there’s ignoring evidence that’s right in front of you.

Naw, he’s the type to pick a fight in a bar, stand up to go outside, and then look to see if his friends are going to hold him back or at least come with.

NielsBohron,

Clarence Thomas probably used to be tough as shit, considering he was a conservative Black man in the 80’s.

That said, he’s had it coming for at least a decade, and I’ll take my shot. Even if I lose, it’s a fight worth fighting.

I teach chemistry at a community college, and you would not believe the…maybe not “self-incriminating”, but at least “highly suspicious” things I need to google on a weekly basis.

I joke with my students that you can’t get a chemistry degree without ending up on at least two watch-lists, but it’s not really a joke.

“Hacker” is a pretty basic Grips song, but c’mon, its perfect. Sometimes you gotta teach those bitches how to swim.

Beating up racists to a soundtrack written by a racist? It’s a bold move…

NielsBohron,

I know, it’s really too bad. Vulgar Display of Power is really good and had some absolutely filthy riffs, but there are so many other amazing metal bands that don’t have the problematic associations that I have a hard time justifying spending my limited time on Pantera

Misery Index is a strong choice. Now that I’m thinking of the metalcore vein, I’d go ETID’s “People Verses” or “Planet Shit”

I hate to be a “kids these days” person, but you’re absolutely right. My Gen Z students don’t even understand how folder/file structure works; they just download everything onto their desktop and use the search function to find what they need later. If they can’t remember what something was called, they’re SOL.

Don’t get me wrong, I have a lot of faith in Gen Z and Alpha, but their strengths are definitely not the strengths of Millenials or Gen X.
