ā€œI donā€™t want anybody going on me. We need every voter. I donā€™t care about you. I just want your vote,ā€

This was one of the three Trump quotes they have in the article. He added he was just joking but pretty sure he was serious.

bamboo,

I misread the title as 2,019 trips were paid by Harlan Crow, and honestly wasnā€™t surprised that the amount of corruption was that high.

bamboo,

Those luxury RVs donā€™t pay for themselves. You expect Clarence Thomas to take away our basic human rights and subvert democracy in a regular RV?

bamboo,

Not saying itā€™s not an internet meme, but NBC News seems to have ran the quote yesterday, and hasnā€™t updated the article with a correction:

he Biden campaign slammed the former president in a statement about the expected gun license revocation.

ā€œWhen Trump tells the NRA he wonā€™t do a damn thing to prevent convicted felons, domestic abusers, and other dangerous people from getting their hands on guns, heā€™s talking about himself,ā€ said campaign spokesperson James Singer in a statement.

I checked James Singerā€™s twitter and couldnā€™t find a written statement, nor a rebuttal to NBC News article, so maybe this was a spoken quote off the cuff?

bamboo,

To be fair, the department of defence did have the $10 billion JEDI cloud contract that Amazon and Microsoft were fighting for a few years ago, so itā€™s not much of a stretch.

bamboo,

There will never be anything funnier than Four Seasons Total Landscaping. If I was a comedy TV writer, I would have quit that day because thereā€™d never be a way I could top the hilarious absurdity of that press conference.

bamboo,

Clear whataboutism. Trump is a convicted felon and itā€™s pertinent for biden to speak about how unprecedented Trumpā€™s conviction is while on the campaign trail for 2024. Whether you meant it or not, comparing a quote from Biden about the ICC decision to the years of Trumpā€™s statements attacking and delegitimizing the elections/judicial system in the US is disingenuous. There is a real possibility that the RNC will nominate Trump for president while he is in jail, which is insane.

bamboo,

Itā€™d be great if there were some handing of YT video ids in Lemmy, which would be independent of the provider domain. So like in Lemmy you could link to a YT video by the id (not URL), and then based on the user settings, that would open up in Piped or Youtube based on preference. I guess this could be done client side, and rewrite youtube links, but then for people who prefer Youtube and get a piped link, youā€™d need to know to rewrite that link. Anyway, thatā€™s the society Iā€™d like to live in.

bamboo,

I hope for future generations, they have to learn about the Simpsons in English class like we had to learn about Shakespeare.

bamboo,

Ha ha!

bamboo,

Donā€™t forget about that picture of Trump playing tennis. Actually, wait, donā€™t picture that.

bamboo,

Are you saying that your LGBT group has different pronoun badges? I feel like you have to post your groupā€™s for a pronoun badge off contest.

A4 is 17.6mm longer than an 8.5x11" sheet of paper.

And when do you ever need the feature to fold an A4 sheet into A5?

ā€œYour honor, if Michael Cohen did in fact work with my client to commit fraud and bypass campaign finance laws, why is he still alive, and not in the bottom of the East River? I rest my case.ā€

bamboo,

FTA:

People mocked her on social media for turning to homophobic insults because she couldnā€™t win the actual argument. Other people pointed out that Boebert isnā€™t even attending her own sonā€™s court hearings ā€“ while making time to attend Donald Trumpā€™s trial in New York ā€“ so maybe she shouldnā€™t be mocking other peopleā€™s parenting.

Sheā€™s just a horrible human being all the way down

This is why they added non removable batteries in the Gameboy Advance SP and ever since.

bamboo,

This argument implies thereā€™s an easy way for you to perform the reproducible builds on iOS, but itā€™s quite involved and requires a jailbroken iPhone. Overall this is more a limitation of apple and not signal.

Even if you were able to perform a reproducible build of Signal on a jailbroken iPhone, thereā€™s no way to confirm that the stock iOS Signal app will match, or has a backdoor that got added in a supply chain attack that only is delivered to non jailbroken phones. You could use a jailbroken iOS device, but then it could be lagging behind updates and be even more vulnerable from zero days.

The real pressure here should be on Apple to provide a way to verify a build of an open source app matches what is being installed via the app store, but for some reason this is being framed as a Signal issue, which is disingenuous.

bamboo,

I thought $0.50 was low for this math to work out, but turns out 30 million copies of Stardew Valley have been sold, so thatā€™s $15 million, which over 60 years is $250k/year.

Still though I have no clue if $0.50 is normal take home per copy sold for a self published game (it seems low), but Iā€™m very happy heā€™s doing well for himself and hopes he makes more per copy sold. Iā€™ve bought the game 4 times, so Iā€™m doing my part!

bamboo,

Ever since he was divorced of his luggage that one time, heā€™s devoted his whole life to never letting that happen again.

bamboo,

Not having reproducible builds is definitely weird though. Does anybody have more information on that?

They boast this as a feature, but on the instructions for how to do this for iOS, even Telegram admits ā€œAs things stand now, youā€™ll need a jailbroken device, at least 1,5 hours and approximately 90GB of free space to properly set up a virtual machine for the verification processā€. Browsing the steps, itā€™s extremely complex, and doesnā€™t seem like something that is very user friendly and that youā€™d do weekly or monthly when a new version is released.

On the GitHub issue linked to in the body, itā€™s disingenuous to claim they refused to implement this, and that the technical hurdles Apple has in place make this extremely difficult which halted progress. In the community forums where the conversation was moved to, someone pointed out that even if you were to reproduce it on a jailbroken iPhone, that thereā€™s no way to confirm that non-jailbroken iPhones arenā€™t receiving a version with a backdoor.

And even if you are using a jailbroken device exclusively and can confirm the reproducibility of the iOS app, then the risk becomes the latest available jailbroken iOS could be outdated from the real versions, and youā€™d have other issues with not receiving timely security updates. This same issue applies to Telegram also.

bamboo,

Itā€™s my understanding that FreeIPA can federate with Active Directory, but personally I havenā€™t tried that myself. As for Authentik, it looks interesting but itā€™s the first Iā€™ve heard of it. I also rely on FreeIPAā€™s certmonger implementation, so I wonder if Authentik could replace that?

Just to understand your use case, you have users in Active Directory where you want to manage SSH keys and be able to login via SSH to linux machines?

bamboo,

This is what Iā€™ve read about where users in AD can be federated to FreeIPA: https://www.freeipa.org/page/V4/One-way_trust. Not sure if this covers your use case

bamboo,

No where in the rules does it say dogs canā€™t play basketball.

Jesus, that is horrible.

State legislators from the area passed a law allowing Schlitterbahn to self-inspect its attractions without state oversight as it did in Texas, unlike all other amusement parks in Kansas, which were subject to state inspection.

You may have just corrected a misconception my High School physics teacher told us that I havenā€™t thought about since, but had been carrying in my head. Thanks!

Rather than eliminating the some of the training data, you could add more training data to create an even balance.

bamboo,

I havenā€™t used windows in ages, but I do remember compatibility mode, and you could select the OS a program should be compatible with. Why couldnā€™t they have had Windows 9, and for apps with issues, you could run in compatibility mode for XP?

bamboo,

There is the Consumer Sentiment Index which at least tries to quantify what people are feeling about the economy. According to the recent report, 48% of consumers expect bad times in the year ahead for business conditions, which is down from the high of June 2022 when 79% of consumers expected challenging times ahead for the economy.

bamboo,

Oof indeed. Itā€™s hard to think back to June 2022, but Iā€™d have to imagine some of the sentiment increases are due to supply chain shortages getting worked out.

Personally as someone in tech, it feels like with interest rates going up, a lot of investments in technology companies have dried up. Looking back, mid 2010s was low interest rates and it seemed like there was more money being invested, without the focus of immediate profit. Now it feels like the screws are being tightened and every cent they can extract out of customers is being taken advantage of, regardless if that is overall good for the product or company.

bamboo,

If itā€™s working for them, thatā€™s great. I wonder how they deal with resentment if someone is not contributing as much as everyone else. Knowing compensation is equal for differing level of work could result in higher performers reducing their effort, leading to an overall decline in the work the team is doing.

bamboo,

Good point, Iā€™m not against the transparent salary, my company lists a salary range, and knowing Iā€™m at the top of my range for my position is rewarding.

bamboo,

I was in your camp for a while and just kept it on my watchlist for forever. Eventually I figured I would probably sink 100+ hours into the game, so the cost per hour of entertainment was quite low. After getting it and playing for more than 100 hours, I can say Iā€™m happy with the purchase and itā€™s worth it.

bamboo,

I thought all of the IP was controlled by The Pokemon Company, which Nintendo owns a minority stake in. Shouldnā€™t it be the Pokemon Company who is filing the DMCA takedown and taking legal action?
