Rapidcreek, to politics in What Trump promised oil CEOs as he asked them to steer $1 billion to his campaign: Donald Trump has pledged to scrap President Biden’s policies on electric vehicles and wind energy & more

Maybe its just me but this seems like a request for a bribe …maybe I am not smart enough to understand these Elite people but its like what he asked Zelensky to do to Biden in that infamous phone call from Hell

Beetschnapps,

Yea but compare that against decades of republicans saying “we’re not a democracy” while their judges champion foreign influence and remove regulations.

The Citizens United decision happened and people keep acting surprised about shit like this…

homesweethomeMrL,

I hope Anthony Kennedy hits his head on a door frame and has to stop and blink a few times because it hurts.

Nightwingdragon,

Maybe its just me but this seems like a request for a bribe

That’s pretty much all lobbying is. Legalized bribery.

DogPeePoo, to politics in Biden calls for broad new social programs, higher taxes on corporations and the wealthy

How about getting Congress to stop trading in the stock market on their inside information

For fuck’s sake the head of the Fed was trading in the market he oversees— was caught doing it— and still remains in his position

blanketswithsmallpox,

He’s already proposed limits and caps to politician trading then everyone fought back against the Stock Act so he kicked it to Congress.

campaignlegal.org/…/biden-should-keep-campaign-pr…

He stopped his own from doing it though since he was able to do that.

Have fun pulling any random possible complaint out every time a Democrat doing something good doesn’t turn our country into a fascist theocratic hellhole though lmfao.

Viking_Hippie, to politics in Red states strike deals to show controversial conservative videos in schools | Educational material from PragerU is now offered to public schools in six states

“Educational material from PragerU” is an oxymoron.

It’s a disinformation factory created to replace and undo education with idiocy disguised as authorative information with varying degrees of success.

xc2215x, to politics in Trump told donors he will crush pro-Palestinian protests, deport demonstrators | Speaking to wealthy donors behind closed doors, he said that he supports Israel’s right to continue “its war on terror.

That is so messed up. Makes Biden look quite reasonable on the Gaza issue in comparison.

pearsaltchocolatebar,

Trump legit wants to nuke Gaza.

Biden isn’t handling the situation well, but Trump wound be orders of magnitude worse.

assassin_aragorn,

This is what people have been trying to say. Biden isn’t doing a great job, but Trump would be infinitely worse. If you actually care about the Palestinians instead of scoring political points, there’s a very clear choice who to vote for.

Maggoty,

Really? What’s different about this and what Biden is actually doing? Biden doesn’t say the quiet part out loud. That’s it. That’s the only difference.

Notyou, to politics in Trump advisers propose mandatory military service

I remember when Obama suggested mandatory civil service. Not necessarily military but local government or parks. Doing some local community work. I thought that was a great idea.

Having mandatory military is dumb. I was in for a few enlistments and you don’t want someone forced to be there when people’s lives are on the line. Vietnam ended up with a bunch of officers getting fragged by disgruntled draftees.

tacosanonymous,

I think it would be a great way to nearly eradicate unemployment and justify free college/trade school until we can force UBI down politicians’ throats.

CheeseNoodle,

I think some kind of public service is potentially good but you have to sort out your incentive structure first. Otherwise all those extra workers just end up being the only workers.

bolexforsoup, (edited ) to politics in Conservative attacks on birth control could threaten access

Why would they let the truth stop them when they stole the Supreme Court and can just do what they want with near-impunity now?

The rulings this month are going to be bad, folks. And if you aren’t worried about the national level issues, take a look at what’s going on the gulf south. It’s wild west/medieval shit down here.

Louisiana just brought back chemical allows for surgical castration as a sentence for pedophiles. And what group do they call groomers more than any other? I’ll give you a hint: there’s a reason they continue to attack drag queens and the trans community.

It’s called sundowning.

Doesn’t seem to be limited to afternoons or evenings; he fell asleep during his trial again today:

Trump is struggling to stay awake. His eyes were closed for a short period. He was jolted awake when Todd Blanche, his lawyer, nudged him while sliding a note in front of him.

jordanlund, to politics in RFK Jr. won’t meet CNN debate requirement for ballot access
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

It’s a super simple requirement:

Be on the ballot in enough states to get 270 electoral college votes.

You must be this tall to ride this ride.

As of June 3rd, Kennedy is on the ballot in 8 states. CA (54), DE (3), HI (4), MI (15), OK (7), SC (9), TX (40), UT (6).

138 potential EC votes, 132 short of what he needs.

He’s waiting on signature certification in 13 more. AK, FL, ID, IA, MN, NE, NH, NJ, NY, NC, OH, TN, WA.

160 potential votes. So if NY or FL say his signatures aren’t valid, that would be enough to bounce him out of contention.

He can automatically be a write in candidate in 6. AL, OR, PA, RI, VT, WY.

He disqualified himself in NV by having enough signatures, but failing to list a VP candidate.

…wikipedia.org/…/Ballot_access_in_the_2024_United…

Soup,

That’s really the kind of organizational skillset that’ll get things done. /s

Even with their fear-mongering and everything I will never understand why the right keeps electing the kind of people who refuse to show any level of qualification. Like ok, you hate taxes and think that corporations should have the right to poison your waterways, but why are you electing the blatant liars and fraudsters who can’t even seem to put their pants on the right way ‘round? At least go for someone who seems to have some level of skill.

Oh, right, people with skill are less and less likely to actually ascribe to those broken ideologies. Maybe that should be a sign.

zerog_bandit,

It’s long been proven that uneducated people vote for demagogues.

I doubt that applies to primary winners. Trump didn’t have to submit signatures either.

A_Random_Idiot,

Burn_The_Right, to politics in Trump plans to claim sweeping powers to cancel federal spending: In a second term, allies said the former president would look at funding cuts for the World Health Organization and green energy

Remember, every penny cut by a conservative is a penny kept by a conservative.

Taxes don’t go down with conservative program cuts. They keep the money they cut from programs. All of it is routed to their pockets. All of it.

Conservatives are cancer.

I didn’t read this article. What the hell? He’s doing all this shit out in the open. It’s not a darker side, it’s just his front-facing side.

mibo80,

I know it’s just the the internet but I remember when this guy was first elected this was the direction Indians commenting on politics feared. He’s always been a populist authoritarian. Crazy how far his reach is though.

riskable, to politics in Was the 2020 election stolen? Job interviews at RNC take an unusual turn.
@riskable@programming.dev avatar

This is the type of thing you do after you have obtained and locked in your power. Not when you’re about to lose the House and have already lost the Senate and are likely to lose the presidential election.

So please continue, GOP. Show the country what you’re made of (MAGA sycophants/pro-insurrectionists/traitors). Not only that but keep it up! Don’t ever change, even after Trump is broke and rotting away in prison.

Change is for liberals!

Maybe the Democrats will get a supermajority in the Senate and actual governing can take place.

stewie3128,

I would love to believe that the GOP losing the Senate and White House were likely.

KevonLooney,

Just vote. Don’t “believe” anything until it’s over with.

Trump is currently campaigning as hard as he can, while Biden is just doing normal Presidential things and taking a lot of flak for it. Trump has no money to spend on his campaign and few big donors. His supporters are not likely to grow.

The Democratic Party is building a GOTV apparatus in swing states to prevent a Hillary sized fuckup (this was the real problem, not conservative Cubans in FL). Trump is spending all the Republicans’ money on legal fees.

Just vote. I think Trump is going to bomb in November and everyone will say “of course! It was obvious! He had no money and was distracted by legal issues!”
