This whole thing is so bizarre to me. People have complained endlessly over the years about game console exclusivity. I personally think it’s bad for the consumer.
And now that MS is talking about putting their experiences on other platforms, people are upset with them? That they’ve somehow lost their way, that the brand is dying?
You may be overthinking the idea. Referring to someone as an NPC is just a shorthand to describe people who fit into the crowds, who don’t make real impressions on you, who really don’t have anything to contribute to your life, but who likely contribute a whole lot to the people in their lives.
You’re an NPC to almost everyone, just as everyone is an NPC to almost everyone else.
You can’t always drill down into people’s personalities to give them real unique identities in your mind.
It’s like walking into a crowd during a concert. Everyone else is an NPC to you except the couple people you went with.
Stadia was such a funny story, imo. Nobody thought it would last given Google’s track record of killing products. Then to try to get into the gaming industry, an industry notoriously impossible to break into… And lo and behold, they failed and killed Stadia.
It’s a great game up until you get to the soldiers part and the following laboratory area. I got to trying to get around those ridiculously difficult flesh monster or whatever in the lab and just quit.
It was a wild pivot from the rest of the game that completely lost my interest.
This kind of journalism makes it out to be that LGBTQ+ persons are a monolith, and as if there aren’t literally many different types of people in that group.
Just say Bi. Or don’t consider it at all because sexuality has nothing to do with sports performance.
Though, I do understand that she is rightfully proud of her LGBTQ+ inclusion and can help inspire others.
There’s no reason to treat the developers like shit though.
Gamers don’t need to act like entitled bitches about everything. Especially when they continue to play the game. Provide feedback, leave a review, and move on. There’s no excuse for rudeness.
It feels like despite all that, Microsoft has had a lot more influence on the gaming industry the last 5 years than Sony because of their Game Pass push. Sony is fine doing what they’ve been doing, which is to put out like 3 great games a year.
Microsoft has struggled with great first-party games, but their services are far more interesting.
Exactly how I feel about the Souls games. How the fuck am I supposed to make any real progress when the only resource I have to do so is lost each time I die?
I have a full time job and a kid, I don’t have time to grind out a boss for hours. Can’t I just enjoy the world with an easy mode?
I don’t even want an easy mode, per se, at the very least just a “medium” mode. Give the bosses like 5% less health, make them 5% slower, etc. Just take the edge off the difficulty so that it’s not so unbearable.
I just got to act 3 and that exposition dump after act 2 felt pretty overwhelming and it does feel like a wall. The transition was stressful and really frantic between all the dialogue and the like 5 big fights in a row.
But I’m sure the rest of the act is just fine, but it’ll be hard to push through that wall.

Dynamic difficulty has its place. For example, most people don’t want to die to the same boss over and over again. That’s just not good gameplay and it’s overall a waste of time.
Instead, a dynamic difficulty system could very slightly adjust some values each time you die: a few points off the enemy HP, juice your damage a bit, slow the boss down. It can be made so subtle that you don’t even notice it happening.
Resident Evil 4 has a dynamic difficulty and people praise it for that. It keeps you moving through the game instead of feeling defeated when you have to manually reduce the difficulty or when you get stuck in the same area for a long time.
I’ve played Starfield for 30 hours and I’ve played about 10 hours now of BG3.
The difference is remarkable. As far as RPG goes, BG3 actually gives you a way to do the role-play part of RPG. You just have so much choice and your choices have consequences. For example, it turns out, someone died because I left an encounter that I wasn’t prepared for and that came back on me later when I found a guy that I should have had a quest line with.
You have relationships, you can choose several ways to approach problems and quests, and the character building is huge. There’s real strategy to everything.
Starfield is just so bland in comparison.
(BTW, BG3 combat is real difficult early on, where I’ve had to save scum just to make it past some fights, but at lvl 3 it gets more manageable. Definitely take time to learn your party’s strengths and weaknesses.)
I’m starting to find that HUDs in games clutter the screen and take away from being fully immersed in the game. I like games that force you to pay attention to what’s going on in the game and not numbers/markers on the edges of the display. What are some of your favorite games to play with no HUD? Here are a few of mine:...
